My new @PostOpinions column: To save the midterms, Trump needs victory in Iran. Americans will endure high gas prices for a good military outcome — but not for a bad deal. FREE GIFT LINK: wapo.st/3PQIq4u

“There is pressure to distribute American compute globally,” Ryan Fedasiuk, fellow at @AEI, told @CNBC last week. “The Trump administration is right in trying to advocate and implement this,” he said. “Yet it will compete with Chinese hyperscalers and Chinese AI labs that are attempting to do exactly the same.” Fedasiuk added that he is watching for coordination between the U.S. and Chinese sides to screen vendors of DNA synthesis services so as to prevent the manufacture of another pandemic. Thanks to @chengevelyn for publishing more of our interview amid the Trump-Xi summit. cnbc.com/2026/05/22/us-…

The US and Nigeria conducted a joint operation in northeastern Nigeria taking out high-level IS commander Abu Bakr al Mainuki, whose death will temporarily impact IS ops across West Africa and maybe, even, North Africa and Europe. CTP's @liam_karr breaks down why this is significant.⬇️

Just before the White House is set to unveil its new Executive Order on AI safety, it was great to join @CNBCi Squawk Box Asia to discuss U.S.-China competition in AI services. Thanks to hosts @cherykang and @Manisha3005 for having me on the program.

You won’t get a better snapshot of where the world is going than the two recent summits in Beijing. Xi, Trump, and Putin are all breaking the old order—and making a turbulent new age. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… @opinion @AEI

American assistance, totaling about $3.8 billion a year, has become a political liability imperiling the future of the U.S.-Israel relationship. The sooner it’s phased out, the better for both countries, writes @DanielJSamet on.wsj.com/3RQiTsG

The privileges and immunities accorded the UN have become an anachronism. Corruption, criminality, and terrorism are not rare in the world body; accountability is. Putting an end to UN impunity is imperative. thedispatch.com/article/united…

The Iran war is already having a dangerous impact on the Red Sea region and the Horn of Africa. It has upped the ante in an already contested area, at once increasing its importance and further polarizing the competing actors, writes AEI’s @liam_karr foreignpolicy.com/2026/05/18/gul…

At a @GLOBSEC Forum in 2023, Emmanuel Macron announced Europe's "conceptual and strategic awakening." Three years later, the results still leave much to be desired. To succeed, @ArnaudDanjean & I argue in @KyivIndependent, the EU /1

MAGA Republicans are more pro-Taiwan than any group polled: 83% percent believe it is important for the U.S. to defend Taiwan against Chinese aggression. If China took military action against Taiwan: *75% would support deploying U.S. military assets; *72% would support establishing a no-fly zone that could include “shooting down Chinese warplanes”; *63% would support committing U.S. ground forces to defend Taiwan *84 percent would support the United States officially recognizing Taiwan as an independent country.
