In our continued effort to support delivery of the Award programme, we recently engaged the Kenya Medical Training College, Nairobi, leadership to reflect on the growth of the Award and explore ways to better empower young people within the institution. The meeting brought together the Nairobi Campus Principal, Mr. Joseph Ahomo, Dean of Students, Ms. Carol Oyugi, Award Leader Mr. Travor Machasio, and Christine Chacha from the President’s Award–Kenya. Mr. Ahomo underscored the importance of service to the community, noting that engaging young people in supporting others not only uplifts communities but also nurtures selflessness, discipline, and purpose. He highlighted the ongoing Gold Residential Project as a powerful opportunity for participants to extend support to the less fortunate at Port Reitz Centre in Mombasa. Currently, participants are undertaking their Gold Award Residential Project at Friends of Port Reitz School, a transformative five-day experience centered on service, collaboration, and cultural exchange. This is the true spirit of the Award Programme: empowering young people to become responsible, resilient, and impactful citizens. We are #WORLDREADY

Thought provoking discussions on Day 1 of the Workshop on Science Translation for Early Career Researchers hosted by the Kenya Science Translation Hub.
'Researchers are churning out research findings and publications, yet their impact is only recognized through the citations in academic circles. Most often, the research findings do not impact the community. Therefore, the question that this workshop is attempting to answer, 'How then can Researchers ensure that their research findings impact not only the communities, the practice, but also inform policies in the Agrifood systems?
Major introspection take-aways:-
1. Should a researcher/ an academic institution also draw a research agenda aligning with the government of the day? or the funders? at the end of the day, policies align with politics.
2. The Community, the Industry and, the policy makers should be involved in the research process from the onset so that the uptake of the research findings can be made easier.
3. The researchers should work with other disciplines ( Scientists should work with anthropologists, social sciences) so that they understand issues that are barriers for the community to uptake the research findings; culture, perceptions and also lack of knowledge.
The Workshop has been attended by Early-career researchers from the University of Leeds, University of Embu and University of Nairobi from different sectors.
