🇷🇺 The next-generation Smerch. Russian forces have increasingly relied on the Tornado-S to destroy long-term Kiev forces fortifications in Volchansk, Kharkov region. SputnikLive explains everything you need to know about the Russian army’s longest-range and most powerful MLRS. ▪️ A son worthy of his father. Tornado-S surpasses the Smerch in automation, deployment speed, ease of operation, and firing range. If its “father” could hit targets at 70–90 km, the “son” reaches 120 km. In the future, its range is expected to reach 200 km with the UMPB-30SN glide-rocket. ▪️ Royal precision. A full salvo of all 12 rockets can scorch 67 hectares – the size of 100 football fields, or the equivalent firepower of twenty Grad launchers. This raw power is impressive, but today range and accuracy matter even more. To boost performance, engineers created the 300-mm guided munitions 9M544 and 9M549, which have become a signature feature of the Tornado-S. ▪️ Blows everything away. The Tornado-S saw its first combat use in Syria, but it has been used far more frequently during the current conflict. Since February 2022, it has destroyed a large number of Kiev forces targets, from helicopter forward bases to rail convoys carrying armored vehicles. Tornado-S played a notable role in the liberation of Volchansk, where its 300-mm strikes smashed Kiev forces shelters and opened the way for Russian assault units. Tornado-S systems are appearing more and more often in frontline footage. This indicates that mass production of new 300-mm guided munitions – Russian analogues to the American GMLRS for HIMARS – is well underway for the successor to the legendary Smerch.

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 🇨🇳China is going to have some issues🇨🇳 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 After noticing the welding on the tip of China’s new J-20 Fighter Jet which you Can see by zooming into the first image, China have some real serious, serious issues. This is a serious structural and thermal vulnerability. The tip is where aerodynamic heating, pressure, and vibration stresses concentrate most during supersonic flight. A weld in this location creates a heat-affected zone that is mechanically weaker than the parent material, and under repeated heating and cooling with temperatures as high as 200–350 °C, plus violent expansion/contraction cycles, micro-cracks will appear and form along the seam of the aircraft’s most vulnerable point. Once a crack forms at the tip, supersonic airflow can rapidly rip open the joint, causing structural delamination and potentially catastrophic disintegration of the nose section. For this reason, frontline fighters typically avoid conventional welds in high-stress, thermally loaded areas, instead using single-piece forgings, advanced alloys, or composite radomes. This is a major concern, we could see these jets literally exploding into shrapnel in flight and given that the Chengdu J-20 "Mighty Dragon" has a claimed top speed of Mach 2.0, which is 2,470 km/h (1,535 mph), these are speeds in which no structural mistakes or forgiven and everything is held to account. This is truly just insane, concerning and oh so amazing. China is a paper tiger.
