I am deeply saddened by the passing of Bill Kaunda, former Mount Kenya University President and a committed servant of students and young people. Bill was a leader who went beyond title, dedicating his time, energy, and initiatives to youth development, leadership, and comradeship. During my time as Moi University President, I had the opportunity to work closely with Bill through the Universities Presidents Council . We shared a strong working relationship founded on mutual respect and a shared vision of empowering students across universities. Bill supported my course and consistently stood for unity, student leadership, and the welfare of comrades. Bill believed in servant leadership and carried his responsibilities with humility and courage. His contribution to student governance and youth leadership left a meaningful impact on many students and young people. His passing following a road accident along Lang’ata Road is a painful loss to the student community and the nation. As we mourn Bill Kaunda, we also call for justice and accountability. His life mattered, and his service to students and young people must be remembered with seriousness and respect.

This development is not only about organizational growth but also about shaping a movement where the voice of the student is heard, valued, and acted upon.

Up at 6am, ploughing the mboga farm before rushing back to Nairobi for office work. In just 4 weeks, my family will be dining on the fresh harvest - proof that with dedication, one can be both a farmer and a professional.

A defining moment for us at the Universities Student Leaders Association (@USLA254) as we successfully recruited and onboarded new members into our Communications Department. For me, this is not just an internal exercise - it is a bold statement of intent. We are deliberately strengthening one of the most critical arms of USLA: the ability to amplify the voice of students, shape narratives, and influence national and continental conversations around higher education and youth leadership. The Communications Docket is at the heart of telling the USLA story. It is the bridge that connects comrades to the world, ensures that student initiatives are not hidden in silence, and positions young leaders as central actors in shaping Africa’s future. Welcoming these new members means we are investing in a stronger, smarter, and more impactful USLA - one that will not only document history but also write it. As I reflect on this milestone, I am even more convinced that USLA’s journey is about more than advocacy; it is about building a legacy of empowered voices that will echo across Kenya, Africa, and beyond. We remain deeply committed to advancing higher education, empowering student leaders, and championing the causes that define our generation.
