Denver Postal Inspector tracked down the man responsible for a holiday burglary - and uncovered a slew of his other crimes. The Watkins, CO Post Office was burglarized over the Christmas holiday weekend in 2021. The burglar broke in through the front lobby and stole unusual items, including PO Box applications and certified mail. After two more similar burglaries occurred at the Sedalia, CO and Dacono, CO Post Offices, Postal Inspectors connected the three burglaries when more unusual items were stolen, including a point-of-sale terminal, postal service jacket, employee personnel files, and a binder containing job applications. Using location data, inspectors identified Zachary Jones as a suspect. During an interview, Jones admitted to illegally possessing a handgun, which he was prohibited from having as a convicted felon. Jones also confessed to stealing postal keys, which he used to steal mail on multiple occasions. During the search of Jones’ hotel room and vehicle, Postal Inspectors found stolen mail, along with the USPS personnel files, PO Box applications, and letter carrier’s uniform stolen during the three burglaries. Following his arrest, Jones pleaded guilty to burglary of a Post Office, possessing stolen mail, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison and ordered to pay restitution to the Postal Service. Image 1: Zachary Jones mugshot Image 2: Back seat of Jones' vehicle

While mail theft can happen any time, take extra care during the holidays to protect yourself. Don't leave mail or packages sitting outside overnight. 📬 #USPIS #CutOutCrime

The FBI Denver Transnational Organized Crime Task Force was executing a federal search warrant in Wheat Ridge this week. We found 290 pounds of methamphetamine; 35 pounds of fentanyl pills; 2 pounds of cocaine; a couple ounces of heroin; and 2 firearms. There is no way we were leaving all of this poison behind to be distributed to people in our community. Thanks to @AuroraPD, @ATF_Denver, @USPIS_Den, @HSIDenver & @IRS-CI for the assist!
