What could possibly be the rationale for rolling back regulations that will undoubtedly compromise our public safety? This isn’t helping legal gun owners. It helps gun dealers who repeatedly violate the law by failing to conduct background checks. It helps people with mental health disorders to secure a gun. And then when tragedy strikes - as it inevitably will with the revocation of common sense gun regulations - all that this Administration will offer is thoughts and prayers. We have been making incremental steps forward to protect our children and communities from gun violence and this Administration’s actions are undoing all the progress and taking us two huge steps back. bostonglobe.com/2026/07/05/nat…

For 250 years, our great experiment has faltered, flourished, evolved, and progressed. The American experience is ever-changing and as diverse as the people who call this country home. But one thing has remained constant – the idea of America has always been a beacon of hope. Protecting this country and the ideals and values it was founded on takes work. Democracy is demanding. It takes dedication and principle. And it takes the resounding belief that upholding those ideals and values is worth the fight because America is bigger than any one person. Because liberty can only truly endure when it is paired with responsibility, virtue, and a commitment to put public good ahead of personal ambition. Today, we celebrate the moment when our founding fathers openly declared that creating this country, based in liberty, was a necessity in the face of tyranny. Their legacy is that leadership requires courage when it’s difficult, integrity when no one is watching, and a willingness to put country above self. We must remember that our duty is not merely to the next election, but to the next generation. That should be the challenge for all Americans as we look forward to another 250 years. From Massachusetts, where the fight for freedom first began, I wish you a happy 4th of July. God Bless America always, God Bless all who call her home, and God Bless our courageous men and women in uniform who continue the fight for liberty today.

On Monday, our office suffered an unimaginable loss. Chris Matthews, my District Outreach and Communications Director, passed away unexpectedly. If any one of you begin to lose faith in our country, remember Chris Matthews. Remember he was without question one of the Commonwealth’s sharpest political minds – a generational talent. Remember that he was more than a Congressional aide. He took the belief that through our actions we all can bring needed change and brought it with him on many interstate bus rides to canvas distant pivotal states and to the doors of the families he inspired. Remember through his example that public service is a genuinely noble vocation. As a trusted member of our office, he helped countless veterans, families, and those who could not advocate for themselves. Those of us privileged to have worked with him for over fifteen years will remember his laugh and his wry, often biting, humor – contrasting the way things are to the way they could be. We will always remember his authentic belief that in this country, people can bring about progress and meaningful change. It was real to him and his sincerity shown through. Chris was a genuinely good person. He was family to all of us, and we are devastated by his loss, particularly at such a young age. Our thoughts and prayers are with Molly and Eli and the many who loved him. Though we wish we had more time with him, his memory will continue to give us faith that one person can significantly make better the lives of those around him.

The House and the Senate have now both passed a war powers resolution ending President Trump's war of choice in Iran. Congress has been clear on behalf of the American people that this war must end.   Yet, the President has signed an MOU that simply kicks the can down the road on Iran's nuclear program while providing billions in sanctions relief. The administration must brief Congress and the American people about the specifics of this deal and whether the deal will actually end the war and prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

This morning at @HouseForeign I had five minutes to ask Marco Rubio some questions - I started by asking about the qualifications of Bill Pulte to be National Security Advisor and about a January 6th insurrectionist working at the Pentagon. Then we turned the page to talk about Rubio’s failure to address the seriousness of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

As a friend who served with Barney Frank from the Massachusetts House to the United States House, I saw up close Barney's commitment to the needs of the most needy. His legislative style encompassed skill, intellect, and, most importantly, pragmatism. Whether he was on the national stage or advocating for his constituents here in the Commonwealth, Barney served our nation in an exemplary way. My thoughts are with Barney’s husband Jim, the Frank family, and his extensive network of friends and supporters.

Proud to lead the Ukraine Support Act with @RepGregoryMeeks and @RepStenyHoyer. The Discharge petition on this legislation now has 218 signatures, and we have now forced a vote on the House floor to support Ukraine. This bipartisan legislation sends a strong message to Russia and President Trump, that the House supports Ukraine. Now we must go pass this bill on the floor.

🚨@RepGregoryMeeks' petition to discharge his Ukraine Support Act has hit 218 signatures, which will finally force a vote. It’s past time for Congress to vote on providing Ukraine with critical assistance & holding Russia accountable for its illegal war. clerk.house.gov/DischargePetit…

In 2019, Congress officially recognized the Aremenian genocide and today we remember the 1.5 million men, women, and children killed 111 years ago. All elected officials and world leaders must recognize this history to ensure it can never happen again.

I congratulate Hungarians on a resounding election result, both a demonstration of their decades-long commitment to democracy & a clear rejection of Orban's pro-Russian leadership. I look forward to working w/ @magyarpeterMP's new government & I congratulate him on his victory.

The President’s statements about Iran are horrible, destabilizing, destructive, and clearly demonstrate that he is not only unqualified but also unfit for office. Threatening to destroy an entire civilization is obviously a war crime, and it should be condemned by all Americans, including my Republican colleagues in Congress. But that’s not enough - the power enshrined in Congress by our Constitution is not the power to issue statements on social media, our power is to legislate and act as a check on the executive branch. We should be in Washington right now, and the only person stopping us from ending this extended recess and holding Donald Trump accountable is Speaker Mike Johnson. The Speaker must reconvene Congress so we can hold hearings and cast votes to reign in this out of control President and his actions, his words, and his illegal war of choice.

I'm disturbed to hear audio of Viktor Orban and his cronies like @FM_Szijjarto taking orders from the Kremlin.   Russia is not our friend and a NATO country taking action on behalf of the Kremlin should raise serious alarms about where the Orban government's loyalties lie.

Today, I voted w/ Dems in @HouseForeign to subpoena @SecRubio, Steve Witkoff, & Jared Kushner to testify on Iran & Ukraine. Republicans voted no.   House R's must demand transparency, accountability, & public testimony from this administration. The American people deserve it.

Disturbed, horrified, & unsurprised with this administration's continued, cruel attacks on science and global health. This is yet another example of the Trump administration playing politics with the health and well being of those who need help. It must stop. nytimes.com/2026/03/16/hea…

A pleasure to see Taoiseach @MichealMartinTD on St. Patrick's Day to reaffirm the US-Ireland relationship.   The stories of Ireland and America are so often interlinked, and today is a reminder that we will always celebrate our enduring and long-lasting friendship.

Refusing to support a lasting peace or condemn Russian aggression, on the 4th anniversary of this brutal war, shows the President's cards. If he was serious about peace, he would up the pressure on Putin to bring him to the table. Instead, he appeases the dictator. Shameful.
Keith Kellogg@generalkellogg

A UN vote on a lasting peace in Ukraine and we abstained. Go figure. The Russian Federation was against the proclamation. Is not four years of war enough? Is not missing children, shelling of cities and the killing of innocents enough? It is not a business deal-it is war.

For four years, the Ukrainian people have demonstrated bravery and courage to defend their democracy and their country from illegal Russian aggression. Four years on, amid continued Russian bombardment in the coldest Ukrainian winter in decades, the Ukrainian people remain strong and resilient. Their actions should be an example to us all. In Congress, for three years, Ukraine was a bipartisan issue. Democrats and Republicans alike passed meaningful, significant pro-Ukraine and anti-Russia legislation. Yet, in the last year, the Trump administration has taken a remarkably different turn. A recent report showed that in the past year, U.S. military aid to Ukraine fell by 99%. As a public servant whose relatives fought and died for this country in World War II, this lack of action from the Trump administration is sickening. While I support talks at peace and believe, as Ukraine does, that this war must come to an end, it is clear we must ramp up the pressure on Russia. While the Ukrainian government bends over backwards to accommodate the President’s attacks and ignorance, Russia has stalled. More importantly, Russia has continued to kill thousands of Ukrainians to fulfill the despotic vision of Vladimir Putin. As Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe and as a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, I will continue to support strong pro-Ukraine and anti-Russia legislation. This includes the Ukraine Support Act which I have co-led and the discharge petition of which remains one Republican signature away from a vote on the floor. I also call on President Trump, on this fourth anniversary, to impose significant additional sanctions on the Russian energy and banking sectors as well as update and maintain current sanctions lists that his administration has allowed to lapse. While the administration and Republicans in Congress refuse to act, I know that the vast majority of the American people remain steadfast in their support for Ukraine’s fight and the Ukrainian people. I know that support will endure not only for the coming weeks and months, but for the years to come.

Another international war crime by Putin; another day of crickets from President Trump. The President has prolonged Putin’s upper hand in its war of aggression against Ukraine and he continues to fawn over Putin and give him red carpet treatment any chance he gets. We are only one Member’s signature away from a discharge of my originally cosponsored bill to bring meaningful sanctions on Putin. Many Members have told me they will vote for it on the House floor. But they don’t want the President’s wrath because they would need to vote to remove Trump’s lackey, Speaker Johnson, first. Only then will sanctions against Putin be put to the floor for a vote. loom.ly/NHk1b3I
