Let me tell you why Man United has been playing many games on Mondays.
First thing you need to know is that, premier league fixtures are majorly arranged by the broadcasters, mainly SKY and TNT.
These broadcasters pay the premier league close to £2bn per year for TV rights, hence, you would agree that they should have a big say in the timing of games, due to broadcasting.
SKY holds major share in these as they show a minimum of 215 matches. TNT show about 52 matches, especially Saturday early kick offs.
They schedule the most marketable games in the best TV windows. For example, Man United on a Monday = reliable big numbers, data has shown that Monday night games generate lots of views, coupled with Monday Night Football.
When these schedules are made, they consider lots of things. This season for instance, 9 premier league clubs played in Europe. If you’re playing in Europe mid week, they try to give you priority. You can’t play on Thursday in the Conference League like Palace and still play on Saturday in the premier league. Also, you can’t play on Sunday like Arsenal, and still play on Tuesday in the Champions league because of fixture congestion and the players also have to recover. Clubs participating in Europe are given some level of priority.
You see clubs like Man United that have no business in Europe, they are the ones that are being thrown around for Friday and Monday night kick offs😅
Remember, SKY has to also make money, and Man United is the next best thing that’ll generate money for them, in fact, without Europe, Man United are arguably the biggest, so they put them on Mondays.
I think it’s the 6th or 7th time Man United is playing on Monday this season. Monday is like prime time, because it’s a standalone game. Lots of people will watch. Other prime times are like 4:30pm on Sunday, if you guys notice, it’s usually the top matches that are shown at this time.
The side effect of this is that the fans are the ones who’ll suffer. Imagine going to work on Monday, you close from work in Manchester and start traveling for an away game in Newcastle😭, it’s stressful. On the other hand, Man United fans have been lucky, most of these Monday or Friday games have been at home (Old Trafford).
Many premier league clubs can compete because of the money made from these TV rights, Premier League also share this money equally among the teams which is commendable, that’s why Sunderland, a newly-promoted team can spend £200m in one transfer window. It’s not the same in other leagues, the big clubs take the chunk of the money, that’s why others can’t really compete.
I hope you understand how this works and I hope few people learn one or two things.

My name is Abdul Wahab. I am pleading with my Football Twitter (FT) family and everyone on this app to please RT. I am on the verge of losing a life-changing opportunity simply because of where I come from, and I have worked too hard to bottle it now.
I grew up in extreme poverty in a small village called Kwabenantene in the Ahafo Region. I am the very first person in my family and my entire village to ever get a university education. My path was never easy. To survive undergrad, I literally had to drop out of classes mid-semester, pack my bags, and go back home to do heavy construction work just to raise enough money to survive the next term. I was laying bricks to pay for my textbooks. Despite having zero financial safety net, I poured my blood and sweat into my studies and graduated with First-Class Honours in Economics, ranking in the top 1% of my entire cohort of 435 students. But I didn’t just want to succeed alone; I went back to my village, gathered the youth, and started teaching and mentoring them. Because of that work, two students from my locality have now successfully made it into university too. I want to lift my people up.
All this hard work finally paid off: I just received admission into the highly prestigious, integrated Masters/Ph.D. Economics program at Goethe University Frankfurt (GSEFM) in Germany! My tuition is officially 100% waived. However, I am facing a massive roadblock. Because the program is so competitive, I wasn't put directly into the fully-funded Ph.D. cohort right away. Instead, I was admitted to the MSQ track for Year 1. I will take the exact same rigorous classes alongside the Ph.D. students, and if I pass my Year 1 qualifying exams, I transition directly into the fully-funded Ph.D.
I know I will pass those exams. The academics don't scare me. The finances do. My only problem right now is getting funding to cover my Year 1 living expenses in Frankfurt. If I can just survive these first 12 months, the Ph.D. funding takes over and my future is secured.
To my FT family: you guys know my grind and my loyalty. If I get this lifeline, I promise I will proudly represent FT in every academic hall, conference, and research room I ever step into. I just need a chance to be in the room. I cannot let a lack of living expenses kill a dream I built with my bare hands.
If you know of any scholarships, foundations, philanthropists, or anyone who can sponsor a village boy for just one year, PLEASE tag them or reach out. Please RT this until it reaches the right timeline. Let’s make this happen! 🌍📚🙏🏾
