Not about lack of athletes and never has been. It's about the meat grinder for-profit ecosystem in this country that is monopolized by MLS, closing off the pyramid and forcing academies and lower division leagues/teams to fend for themselves while US Soccer/MLS extract everything

Also, I would really love if people realized that saying best athletes doesn't mean only focusing on physical traits. Athleticism encompasses every aspect of sports performance and includes technology, tactical and psychological skills.

For the record, the top European and South American soccer players are in fact more athletic than the top American soccer players, for men's soccer at least. The stereotype of American players being athletic, but not skillful is just that, a stereotype.
