Historic day. Let us please never undervalue nor underestimate the power of science. A vaccine roll out in less than a year from the discovery of a new virus. Covid-19 vaccine: First person receives Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in UK bbc.co.uk/news/uk-552273…

Wishing all new and continuing students well for the start of the academic year! Special mention to the nurses, midwives, paramedics and biomedical scientists who I have the privilege of supporting. Good luck, work hard, have fun!

Welcome (to or back)! Strange times, but we’re working hard to ensure you have as good an experience (or even better) as you’d have if we were crammed in the same room together (with me tutting when folk came in late to lecture)! Looking forward to seeing you (virtually)!

My PhD viva is tomorrow. I am pretty calm, but the stress must be getting to me on some level because I just tried to put a carton of milk away in the microwave 🤣 #phdlife #nearlythere

Dear friends, be careful passing on info unchecked (no matter how well meaning). 200% jump in suicide rate is misreading of 200% rise in calls to MH charity. People can feel more vulnerable when hearing such alarming stats. #SuicideAwareness @samaritans @BBCRealityCheck

@UWSbiol Hi Andy, It's important not to assume that meditation will work for everyone. It's important to let the students guide the process. Similar to co-creating knowledge, it's equally important to work with the students when it comes to fostering emotional well-being.

@lrningsanctuary to students who are in fact traumatised and not with “typical” student stress, are we aggravating issue? Perhaps Q relates to default advice giving that would not fit all student (till now I’d assume advising meditation etc would have no ill effect). Thanks. 2/2

@lrningsanctuary Hi, I loved your UWS webinar y’day. I had a Q re default mode network. I’ve read meditation can reduce DMN activity and reduce stress. You showed DMN is all but diminished by trauma. So my question is, if we promote things like meditation/mindfulness...1/2

Welcoming language and transparency. Two key stragegies used to aid students dealing with difficult circumstances. #UWSLTR2020
