In the early hours of October 19, 2025, 21-year-old Silas McCay was shot 10 times while shielding friends, including 18-year-old cheerleader Kimber Mills, from gunfire at a bonfire in Pinson, Alabama. The shooter, 27-year-old Steven Tyler Whitehead, fired 12 rounds after a confrontation, killing Mills and wounding others. McCay survived. Mills died on October 22 and donated her organs. Whitehead now faces capital murder charges.
