Last month I got to visit the awesome 5,000-year-old Isbister Cairn in Orkney aka the Tomb of the Eagles, which has only just reopened post Covid thanks to a community buy-out. And you get to enter flat on your back via a trolley. Great stuff! #TombTuesday

My street is on fire and several houses are burning. We have been evacuated, but normal Hookland service may not happen for a bit.

@stone_lands Your sunscreen is definitely working that 'mystical haze' to good effect, Fiona! Who knew sunscreen could enhance the art & craft of photography?! ✨️✨️

The Stanarandy Stones near Birsay (Orkney). In a mystical haze that may or may not be sunscreen on the camera lens. I waded knee deep through buttercups to get there so was sneezing a lot in that moment. #StandingStoneSunday

@stone_lands just bought your fab book, Stone Lands, from David's Bookshop in Letchworth for my (drum roll)....partner - Fiona Robertson! Kiwi, Scottish on her father's side. Q: Do you do signed insert notes? I'm sure she'd be thrilled. Have started reading it, engrossing.

#StandingStoneSunday Moel Y Uchaf, possibly my favourite stone circle in Britain, due to its remoteness and shear lack of visitation.

I’m happy to report that the torch at Wideford Hill cairn (Mainland, Orkney) is currently working. Useful for crawling into those dark, 5,000-year-old chambers … #TombTuesday

@stone_lands As a fantasy writer I adore myths and legends from all around the world. From the flying vimanas of Ancient India to the jyaku statues in Japan, to your amazing megaliths, and the ancient ruins being found in the Amazon. Ancient history is amazing and we must preserve them.

@stone_lands Iirc least two of the stories in the BL Tales of the Weird volume on stone circles take this idea as the basis for horror stories

The Stane O’ Quoybune, ringed by not one but two barbed wire fences. To protect it from cows and megalith enthusiasts? Or perhaps it’s to save us from the stone… this is the one that goes to the loch at Hogmanay and if you try to watch, it will kill you… #StandingStoneSunday
