The Hoover Dam was built in the amount of time it has taken California to construct a small bridge for cats and butterflies. The Empire State Building was built in about a quarter of the time.

EXCLUSIVE: Gavin Newsom promised to build a bridge for cougars and butterflies in the middle of Los Angeles. The project has turned into another boondoggle, with broken deadlines and costs exploding to $114 million. This is Newsom's bridge to nowhere. city-journal.org/article/califo…

@Luan75937152 @DreamLeaf5 The "New-Age to Alt-Right Pipeline". Right wingers used conspiracy to infiltrate and influence the New Age movement. It's been ongoing since the hippie movement, but gained steam during the Obama administration when the Alt-Right was still relatively fringe.

@Che_MyBae @JuniperFolly The vast majority of environmental management is done on the state level. Federal laws are the baseline but the states tend to be more stringent, or have strange policies that need to be navigated. Environmental work also takes *forever* to get done, outlasting administrations.

@JuniperFolly Do you have a degree in environmental science? I have a family member graduating with an environmental sciences degree with a minor in public policy. They had a certain direction they were going to go after graduation but DOGE and the Trump admin kind of killed that

I used to work in sustainability consulting. I'd have to pitch everything as a cost saving measure and some guy from an oil company with a thick dallas drawl would tell me "sweetheart, we'll just pay the fine"

@Unenthuser @bataille_chris This model is incapable of using previous data? A model doesnt care if the data was collected for a time period before its inception. We have extensive records of atmospheric gaseous contents dating back over 100 million years.

It’s almost like climate science was a … science, with testable and nullifiable hypotheses, not vibes. And that anthropogenic climate change, and its rate and drivers, are actually supported by observed data …
Jerome Foster II@JeromeFosterII

It's very remarkable how well climate predictions from decades ago have held up. Retrospectively comparing future model projections to observations provides a robust test of accuracy. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

@Otaku_LaRue @bataille_chris It starts in 1970 because the first model to describe the influence of CO2 on the earth’s atmosphere was published in 1967 and the chart is titled “climate model predictions versus observations” so it’d be a little silly to include a time period before the models even existed.

@bataille_chris Why does the chart start at 1970? Is it perhaps because if it started at 1900 your supposed trend would be an obvious fiction?

@SCentralized This was a very interesting case where the book was great if you’d read Bloodline, Aftermath, and Lost Stars, but probably wouldn’t hit particularly hard if you picked it up alone as like 75% of the plot is driven by character references.

@SCentralized If it was live action, it’d also either look like dog shit or be the single most expensive piece of media ever produced given the shear scope of the conflict. It would also require complete commitment up front, as you could basically never stop production until it’s finished.

@Linksgeflauscht @honeybunwife It largely links back to the GamerGate situation which pre-dates TFA by a bit. While GG itself was almost certainly stoked by outside forces, that’s where Steve Bannon learned you could weaponize that nerd rage and basically just lie to people, which shaped the Trump campaign.

@honeybunwife Well I'd argue it's fascists using nerd rage to influence young men to become fascists while our governments followed in becoming more fascist. It's one of many parts. Nerds and Star Wars are not important enough to change the world alone.

@Crystal_Descent @DireRavennn We can look to RE's light gun shooter games for this same type of dynamic shift. As part of the Gun Survivor line we'd even get Dino Stalker, which kinda incoherently bridges the RE and Dino Crisis series.

@DireRavennn I can think of one, Final Fantasy, it has made much wilder changes than Resident Evil has, considering one canon game isn't even an RPG, it's a third-person shooter.

@cosminDZS Based on the current exchange rate, this is about $21 USD or ~$7/lb. The average price of cheddar cheese in the US right now is about $6/lb. Not much of a difference there.

@InfinitRealms17 @jtimsuggs Vader did not “almost die” from his attempt. The crystal initially rejected him and caused a moment where his conviction wavered, showing him a vision of a potential future, but it didn’t cause him much physical harm. Dagan’s arm loss also had nothing to do with the bleeding.

Still really fascinates me just how many people claimed Osha bleeding a Kyber Crystal in The Acolyte supposedly “broke canon” or blindly went with that narrative, when the same concept has been shown numerous times in various other projects. Like…it literally just took one search to realize that wasn’t the case at all?

@f0w0xxy @FredbearDelamat @PurplePanda394 @jtimsuggs Alright, let’s see here. Vader struggles to bleed the crystal because it’s a moment where his conviction wavers. The act of the bleed in this story is more a metaphor for Vader reaffirming his commitment to the Dark Side. But it also doesn’t really come close to killing him.

@JacobBoushh @MaceAhWindu It lead to the change in perception for sure, but it’s weird tribalism and “wars” helped set the stage for the proliferation of the post-2016 culture war within the Star Wars fandom. You now have a community that engages with the memes and not the actual media.

@Unenthuser @Nick_HBS @BestMovieMom I don’t think video windows on a practical set count as “the volume”. Gilroy has said they didn’t consider using a volume because it flips the way you have to write / direct / produce. All the visuals have to be DONE before you shoot.

Unlike other Star Wars series, Andor (2022) famously avoided using "The Volume" digital stage. Showrunner Tony Gilroy insisted on real-world locations and practical sets to give the series its signature "prestige" and grounded aesthetic.
