@SCentralized Like even the “born of no father” calls back to the spiritual rebirth of the Campbell Mythic Hero, which gets entirely overshadowed by Anakin literally having no father.

@SCentralized It’s interesting from the angle of “when darkness rises, light rises to meet it”, meaning the Chosen One is simply the Mythic Hero that rises in times of darkness, which would be emblematic of the themes of the saga. But that gets lost by treating Anakin as the Most Special Man.

@HuntressSellia Those old playgrounds were mostly made with CCA-treated wood, which contains arsenic. This is fine for structures, beyond the tendency for it to leech into the ground, but the high action of a playground lead to the material getting chipped off and ingested. Most were torn down.

@kelsburn3r @BlightsMageVll @108r5meme The devs hire a consultant for a specified purpose, the consultant weighs the opinion on the matter and consults the dev, then the dev determines if changes need to be made as a result. The dev is under no obligation to follow through on changes suggested by the consultant.

@Unenthuser @BlightsMageVll @108r5meme So you’re gonna genuinely sit here and tell me that companies are paying consultants to just not listen to them? That’s why the devs themselves say that they work closely with her?

@sweaustin0 @SirSnipeyy The Bad Batch arc was nearly completed before original the cancellation. They even had preliminary animatics and the episodes were in a watchable state. They released them to the public. S7 made some minor changes, but they basically just finished the nearly completed arc.

@SirSnipeyy those first 2 arcs are even worse when you look at the other arcs they had written and even storyboarded. they’re given 3 arcs to finish it off and that’s what they went with lol. i understand they wanted to show ahsoka’s life outside the order but damn

@BlightsMageVll @108r5meme Let's run with that logic and assume that it's what Sarkeesian actually does. What would a mock review of that nature provide? The irrational response one could expect to see online. What does that help a dev with? Being prepared if and when that comes.

@TodayinTor @SheevPalps66 @Wollivan It’s from Tatooine Manhunt. The adventure reuses McQuarrie’s concept art of the ESB bounty hunters that West End Games pulled out of the Lucasfilm archives, it was not commissioned specifically for the game. The analogs in Tatooine Manhunt aren’t even all together at any point.

@SheevPalps66 @Wollivan Theyre the playable characters from a 90s tabletop game. Theyre all designed to be 'playable versions' of the ESB bounty hunters without the game using the same characters.

@BlightsMageVll @108r5meme An external consultant like Sarkeesian is likely either reviewing manuscripts to see if there’s something unintentional the devs missed or performing a mock review. Both of which are very useful and both rely specifically upon an outside eye.

@righthandedpwr @RaithwallRover @brettgallman After being wounded by Mordred, Arthur orders Sir Bedivere to throw Excalibur back into the lake, signifying the end of his reign before he goes into exile on the isle of Avalon. Arthur’s struggle with the burden of the weapon is a common aspect of the myth.

funniest thing about LAST JEDI discourse is when people criticize its depiction of Luke as "subversive" when he's basically just become Yoda, upholding Lucas's mantra of the movies rhyming like poetry

@MagnetoPK @sybauna @WuTangDan10 @grizzlikesfilm It’s easy to assume, but there has never been any direct indication that Abrams or the other writers even knew what Dark Empire was ahead of time. “Evil sorcerer coming back from the dead” isn’t exactly a unique concept and we know from the Prequels Palps was seeking immortality.

@UnlimitedApathE @AesirAesthetics @veryappalled That's just how short story collections were published back then. The individual stories were often printed in zines and newsletters first, then collected together once enough had been written to fill a book and named after the best received story of the batch.

@AesirAesthetics @veryappalled It’s so funny how the writer literally gets bored by his own paranormal premise like half way through and decides “fuck it I’m gonna write romances about gallant bohemians instead” and it’s literally NEVER addressed or mentioned. Just the book you were reading 180s into a dif one

@TheBuddah101 @AesirAesthetics The Carcosa and Cthulhu Mythos were primarily authors just building off of each other's work through short story collections. The King in Yellow is one of the very base concepts that got it started, so it's not particularly remarkable compared to what would build off it.

@Unenthuser @dpmanwithaplan @lukeisamazing Or part 2 of your trilogy could not throw a grenade into every storytelling beat of part 1, which stands out as objectively bad storytelling so long as we don’t allow ourselves to be negatively polarized into defending it by chuds running an astroturf campaign on rotten tomatoes.

they didnt change anything in response to backlash. Ep 9 was bad bc Bob Iger demanded a 12/2019 release, 18 months after firing the director, and bc they couldn’t stick with any idea. all the Rey Palpatine stuff was added 3 months before release due to bad test audience reactions
Kyle Potter@kpottermn

The absolute worst part of The Last Jedi is that the childish backlash to a genuinely good film led directly to The Rise of Skywalker, which is an absolute abomination of a movie.

@M_BobRyan @dpmanwithaplan @lukeisamazing The magic of storytelling is that implication becomes a very useful tool. The movie starts in the thick of it, using Poe, Finn, and Rey together helping people out, where the other Resistance members are used to show a greater information network. You can sell that in an hour.

@M_BobRyan @dpmanwithaplan @lukeisamazing Hour 1: Poe and the Resistance covertly help planets resist the first order. Hour 2: The FO lashes out in an attempt to crackdown, struggling to maintain its loose grip. Hour 3: Kylo Ren is crumbling apart, Rey “defeats” him without ever raising her blade. Hits ‘em all.

@Unenthuser @dpmanwithaplan @lukeisamazing It is not possible to execute that in a ~2hr three-act movie that also discharges all the other narrative obligations of the conclusion of a trilogy. Part 3 is not for major character intro, world-building, and tension gathering.

@M_BobRyan @dpmanwithaplan @lukeisamazing It would not be a deus ex machina if that was the main plot of the film and not pulled out of fucking nowhere to save the day. The idea itself works just fine, especially as a thematic resonance with the end of TLJ, it’s the execution that was lacking.

@Unenthuser @dpmanwithaplan @lukeisamazing “Spiraling and erratic Kylo Ren” is barely more engaging or original than “Palpatine Returns” and “rally the regular folk of the galaxy” is literally what happens in TLS and it was rightly derided as an absurd deus ex machina.
