@taylr Shoutout Katie Cashman. Saint Paul desperately needs the same kind of action.
English

also, it was the minneapolis city council who approved $1 million to fix lights! katie cashman was championing it and put out a press release last year on progress, now the mayor takes credit for it
another example of why strong mayor is so bad

blatant attempt to copy zohran mamdani’s videos about how he’s working on core public services in new york city
so if that’s the gold standard, what is the city of minneapolis doing to combat neglectful landlords like 110 grant? it’s jacob frey’s donor!

Mayor Jacob Frey@MayorFrey
When thieves went after our street lights, we didn’t wait. Our Public Works crews got to work—and locked in a long-term fix. We’ve now restored 26 miles of copper wire, or over 700 lights, making our streets safer for everyone who uses them.

@visceralscenery Or you get some bonus cardio in running to catch the bus 🤣
English

@stpguy33 @visceralscenery But in general I agree with you that we should build our Arterial BRT's, that don't have specialized infrastructure like bridges, or a new guideway quickly. I'd say 1.5ish years for planning, 1.5ish for design and 2 years for construction is a pretty good goal.
English

@stpguy33 @visceralscenery ABRT's have some federal funding which require it to last 10 years. So they kind of have to wait until MNDOT reconstructs the road.
And even if it wasn't required by the feds, we should try and limit the impacts to businesses by syncing up the construction projects
English

@cookiebotmonstr I don't envy the people on the school board who are having to make the tough decisions that they have coming up, with the limited funding available to them.
English

@cookiebotmonstr It's a tough situation to be in, because if you close a school, and a city increases their population by 100k, leading to greatert enrollment then you could be stuck with significant overcrowding. And it's not easy to find enough vacant land to build a new school.

St. Paul charges property owners quite a bit for buildings and not much at all for vacant land, a perverse disincentive, in the eyes of critics, to fill vacant lots. What if we flipped it? Could a "land value capture" tax be the panacea this city needs? Would new tax rules encourage you to build baby build, or get the heck out of dodge and simply not buy property at all here? twincities.com/2026/03/24/sol…
English

@cookiebotmonstr @yumtapwater A very necessary part of the solution!
English

In 2026, Minneapolis had a budget that was 230% greater than Saint Paul, and yet Saint Paul had a higher property and sales tax burden for people.
We must rebuild our downtown, and build more housing to allow our budget to grow without it being on the backs of our residents.
St. Paul Cait 🇺🇸@caitlinmcgowan
St. Paul has a serious tax problem and it's making our longtime citizens want to leave this city. @kaohlyforstp this needs to change.
English

@trillharris I used to do Instacart, and honestly having someone to do it with could make sense for the larger orders cause you can split up and go to different places in the store.
But for Doordash, there's really no benefit besides having someones company, or using someone's license
English

@UsesTransit Never thought of that. Sucks as a solution to make DoorDash tips with no car/license

This book is a wonderful introduction about how communities can evaluate and make choices about the transit they want. It's especially good at articulating the importance of understanding tradeoffs, because there are always tradeoffs to be made with limited resources.

What does it mean for transit to be useful? That’s what my book Human Transit is all about! 8/8. amazon.com/Human-Transit-…

Long term, it'd be cool to see a 'Culdesac' development at Lafayette Park/ Crooks Haven connecting downtown/ railroad island/ mt airy- its mostly parking/ warehouse/ city/ county offices right now.

zenfer@ian22c
@natehoodstp @culdesac Here's Culdesac superimposed on the St. Paul Sears site.
English

@natehoodstp @culdesac Sears or Westrock would be perfect for this
English

@natehoodstp If only we could get retirement systems willing to build world-class transit networks in the Twin Cities like they did in Montreal, instead of squeezing the life out of our commercial corridors

why is kaoly her complaining that republicans are blocking independent investigations into shootings by feds in minnesota, while she as st paul mayor is blocking an independent investigation into a police response that injured journalists and protestors?

@MaplehoodUnited @natehoodstp Weekday ridership is 175% of when it first opened. I expect the ridership will continue to increase like the Orange Line is currently.
English

@natehoodstp Wonder if the Gold Line is doing any better.
