Sheriff Dawanna Witt threatening to sue the Hennepin County Board if they try to stop her from exceeding what she calls an "unattainable" budget for 2026. Among the issues she's dealing with: overtime costs, wage increases, jail costs, providing health care to inmates, and more.

This is the same mayor who told the police chief not to come to a community forum that was attended by every city councilmember about this event (Besides one on maternity leave). We need genuine accountability, not empty words of support. The East Side will remember this.

@natehoodstp When I have free time, I'm going to do an analysis on how much the Twin Cities were relying on downtown commuting and express routes compared to other metros. I think it's a big factor. But there's more issues than just that. I'm gathering thoughts together for a larger article.

@rhett_carlson I don't think a public university should have a low acceptance rate if we're all subsidizing it. The fact that the North Star Promise is opening up the opportunity of higher education to many more people instead of gatekeeping it is a good thing!

Increasingly selective? The U hasn't been selective enough. In 2015, UMN's acceptance rate was 45%. Now it's 80%. In the same time, UW's acceptance rate has gone from 58% to 45%. UW-Madison has long been seen as the academic superior, but the widening gap should be concerning.

@rhett_carlson A Light Rail Platform Study was launched in 2023, and was supposed to be completed in 2024, but I can't find it publicly released anywhere.

MSP's rail network doesn't have a lot of grade separation to work with, but the one station that *is* fully grade separated *also* happens to attract an outsized share of antisocial & criminal behavior. Fare gates at Lake St/Midtown are as close to a silver bullet as it gets. There were 31,548 calls for service & 2,195 crimes systemwide in Q3 2025. Properly screen riders from miscreants at this station alone and wipe out a substantial portion of the problem. Save enough on annual R&M ("corrective maintenance") and maybe we can have nice things like escalators again @MetroTransitMN
