@McCadeP8 His contract was guaranteed for death and was insured on the team side, per reports. However, there are typically cause of death exceptions including substance abuse. Clarke’s death remains under investigation.

Seeing some people ask if that voids the money in his contract? That depends. Players can negotiate if it’s guaranteed even with a death. They can also get some life insurance and depending on how he died the Grizzlies can fight giving that money. Behind closed doors issue

Not sure I have seen this reported many places, but the Grizzlies officially filed to the NBA for Brandon Clarke's contract to be voided due to career ending injury. His cap is now off their books. May he rest in peace.

To be clear: Said on yesterday’s show Jonathan Kuminga is looking for “more in” the $25 million AAV ballpark compared to the Lakers’ previously-reported 2/20 offer. Not “more than.” And Kuminga is also open to various deal structures depending on fit and role with Lakers, Cavs, other suitors. Full detail on his sign-and-trade market: tinyurl.com/d8a6n7u9
Jake Fischer@JakeLFischer

While the Clippers work through the NBA’s Kawhi curveball, sources say Los Angeles — as well as another Peyton Watson suitor — is currently unlikely to swing a sign-and-trade with Denver, as the Nuggets are asking for a “Walker Kessler-type return” for Watson. More here: tinyurl.com/d8a6n7u9

@GraceJNBA @MiroslavCuk @YossiGozlan The money is actually a little bit more by picking up the player option and extending. But if he does that, he can’t get the no-trade. And he’d have to pick up the option by June 29th, 2027 so couldn’t test the market or pressure Nuggets to add talent.

Nikola Jokic can get a four year max by extending anytime between now and June 30, 2027. He can get a five year max with a no trade clause if he re-signs with the Nuggets as a free agent in the 2027 offseason.
Marc Stein@TheSteinLine

Nikola Jokić reiterates tonight in Serbia that he intends to be a Nugget for life but also confirms the recent report from @JakeLFischer and me about delaying a contract extension. Jokić says that, like last summer, he plans to put the signing off until after the coming season.

Standard raises would start Mark Williams at $11.7 million. This would leave the Suns $4.3 million under the second apron hard cap with a full roster. They’ll go into the season above the first apron and $16.4 million above the luxury tax line.
Shams Charania@ShamsCharania

Restricted free agent Mark Williams intends to sign a three-year, $38 million contract to return to the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN. The deal is fully guaranteed for Williams, who averaged 11 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block in 23.6 minutes per game as the Suns starting center.

Funny consequence of new lottery rules. If BOS gets #1 in 2028, their second round pick will be #46 now

Everybody loves the transfer portal, and I get it. But can't be understated how important retaining Ivan Kharchenkov and Motiejus Krivas is. They are literally better than anyone Arizona could've gotten in their place in the portal. WELCOME BACK TO TUCSON, BOYS 😤😤
