@harshdeeprapal You cannot generalize it. If you travel by Mumbai local trains and claim you feel unsafe and anxious, you will get the same feeling if you visit Toronto and take the TTC subway. But good at least your tweet is getting reach with some hate. Best of luck.

Met a 62 year old retiree today here in Tampa who used to work for Oracle in SFO. He said he had heard a lot of good things about India from his Indian colleagues. So when he decided to retire from work at 58 and moved to Tampa, he took a vacation to India and Sri Lanka. He said and I quote (and agree with him) - 'rather than feeling relaxed, India makes you feel anxious, overwhelmed and exhausted. Sri Lanka on the other hand made me feel relaxed.' He further mentioned that at most of the tourist places, everyone is keen to scam you. I laughed it off and changed the topic. Because deep down I know there is truth to what he said and experienced.

@harshdeeprapal Agreed, what you expect from people of country who have been exploited and scammed by outsiders for over 1000 years? India is a wounded civilization, which has been looted and tortured for millennia do much that being selfish to survive has got into genes of people.

@brent64624136 @TexasTribune Now that's a stupid comment. Thousands of Americans cross into Mexico for medical care because there are excellent doctors and hospitals that they can afford unlike here in the states. Silly boy.

@TexasTribune BS. They get free care. Courtesy of the US taxpayer. It's a big reason they come here. Welfare and free medical care. They have no doctors in Mexico with anything more than guava paste to treat all ailments.

Cleopatra VII was born in 69 BC in Alexandria, Egypt, the daughter of Ptolemy XII, ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom. She was the only Ptolemaic ruler known to have learned the Egyptian language, along with several others including Latin, Arabic, and Parthian. When her father died in 51 BC, she became queen alongside her younger brother Ptolemy XIII. A power struggle between the siblings erupted into civil war, forcing Cleopatra into exile in Syria, where she raised an army to reclaim Egypt. The Roman general Pompey fled to Egypt after his defeat at the Battle of Pharsalus in 48 BC, seeking refuge, but was ambushed and killed on the orders of Ptolemy XIII. Julius Caesar arrived in Alexandria shortly after and demanded the siblings reconcile, leading to Cleopatra's famous secret meeting with him inside the royal palace. Caesar and Cleopatra became lovers, and Caesar sided with her against Ptolemy XIII during the Siege of Alexandria. Ptolemy XIII drowned in the Nile during the Battle of the Nile in 47 BC, ending the civil war. Caesar declared Cleopatra and her younger brother Ptolemy XIV as joint rulers, and she gave birth to a son, Caesarion, who she claimed was Caesar's child. Cleopatra traveled to Rome in 46 BC as a client queen, residing at Caesar's villa, where she stayed until his assassination on the Ides of March in 44 BC. After Caesar's death, Ptolemy XIV died under suspicious circumstances, possibly on Cleopatra's orders, and she named Caesarion as her co-ruler. When the Roman Second Triumvirate formed under Octavian, Mark Antony, and Lepidus, Cleopatra aligned with them to protect her kingdom. Antony summoned Cleopatra to meet him at Tarsus in 41 BC, beginning a political and romantic alliance that would define the final decade of her reign. Antony and Cleopatra had three children together and built a formidable political partnership, with Antony granting Cleopatra significant former Ptolemaic territories in exchange for military and financial support. Their power peaked with the Donations of Alexandria in 34 BC, when their children were publicly declared rulers of various kingdoms under Antony's authority. Octavian exploited the event as propaganda, portraying Antony as a traitor who had surrendered Roman interests to a foreign queen. Rome declared war on Cleopatra in 32 BC, not Antony, framing the conflict as a defense against a foreign threat rather than a civil war. At the Battle of Actium on September 2, 31 BC, the naval forces of Octavian defeated the combined fleet of Antony and Cleopatra. Antony and Cleopatra retreated to Egypt as Octavian's forces closed in from multiple directions in 30 BC. Antony received a false message that Cleopatra had taken her own life and fatally wounded himself in despair. Cleopatra, learning that Octavian planned to parade her through Rome in chains, chose death over captivity. She died on August 10 or 12, 30 BC, at age 39, likely by poison, though the exact method remains debated by historians. Octavian executed Caesarion shortly after to eliminate any rival claimant to Caesar's legacy. Egypt became a province of the Roman Empire, ending both the Ptolemaic dynasty and the Hellenistic period that had begun under Alexander the Great. Cleopatra's three surviving children were taken to Rome and raised under the guardianship of Octavian's sister Octavia, and her daughter Cleopatra Selene II later became queen of Mauretania. Her image and legacy became a battleground for competing narratives almost immediately after her death, shaped heavily by Augustan propaganda that portrayed her as a dangerous seductress. She has since become one of history's most depicted figures, appearing in ancient Roman art, Renaissance paintings, Shakespeare's plays, Hollywood films, and countless other cultural works. #archaeohistories

This turn-of-the-century photograph shows Jack Daniel (in the white hat) seated beside George Green, the son of **Nathan 'Nearest' Green, the man widely recognized today as America’s first known Black master distiller. For generations, it was believed Daniel learned whiskey-making from a local preacher and landowner, Dan Call. But historical records and family accounts revealed that the real teacher was Nearest Green, an enslaved distiller hired out to Call. Green mentored the young Daniel and later worked with him after the Civil War, helping shape what would become one of the most famous whiskey brands in the world. Green’s role remained largely overlooked for more than a century until Brown-Forman, the company that owns Jack Daniel’s, officially acknowledged him as the distillery’s first master distiller, with Daniel considered the second. The Jack Daniel’s distillery sits in Lynchburg, Tennessee, located in a dry county. Visitors can buy commemorative bottles at the distillery, but the whiskey technically isn’t “sold” there due to local alcohol laws. © Old Historical Photos #archaeohistories

Hawaiian Royal Guard disarmed by U.S. Marines in 1893.. In January 1893, the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi stood at a breaking point. A group of American and European businessmen, backed by U.S. Minister John L. Stevens, moved to overthrow Queen Liliʻuokalani. U.S. Marines from the USS Boston landed in Honolulu, officially claiming to protect American lives and property. The kingdom’s Royal Guard, loyal to the queen, was ordered not to resist. Outnumbered and facing the implied threat of American force, they surrendered their weapons. Queen Liliʻuokalani yielded under protest, hoping the United States would later restore her authority after investigating the legality of the takeover. It didn’t happen. A provisional government quickly formed, and by 1898 Hawaiʻi was formally annexed by the United States. President Grover Cleveland later called the overthrow an “act of war” carried out without proper authority and attempted, unsuccessfully, to reinstate the queen, marking one of the rare times a U.S. president openly condemned an American-backed regime change. © Historical Photos #archaeohistories

The Caribbean island of Hispaniola is home to Haiti and the Dominican Republic — and even though they are neighbors, tensions between the two linger, stemming from a conflict in 1844. Still, as @adrianadiaz, with Dominican heritage, and @vladduthierscbs, with Haitian heritage, know well, the two sides have plenty in common. They visited Brooklyn’s Antilles Cafe, named after the island group that contains both countries, to see how two friends are celebrating their cultures together.

The Moors were a group of North Africans who conquered and ruled Spain for nearly 781 years, from 711-1492 CE. They entered the Iberian Peninsula, Spain, after crossing the Strait of Gibraltar, passing through Morocco... African Moors were known for their exceptional architecture and engineering skills, and they built numerous impressive structures, such as universities and mosques in Spain, which still stand to this day. They made significant contributions in various fields, including math, medicine, chemistry, philosophy, astronomy, botany, bricklaying and history. The African Moors were the first to introduce the use of Arabic numbers in Europe, which are still used today. They also made significant advances in medicine, developed treatments for various diseases and created medical textbooks that were widely used. In addition, the African Moors were skillful astronomers and developed advanced techniques to measure time and determine the position of celestial bodies. They also made important contributions to botany, introducing new plants in Spain and creating gardens admired by many. African Moors were also known for their expertise in bricklaying and built numerous impressive structures, such as Granada's Alhambra, considered one of the most beautiful and impressive buildings in the world. Finally, they also wrote extensively about their history, creating numerous historical texts that are still being studied today. 📷 : a painting of a figure often associated with the "Moorish" period or culture, particularly in the context of European orientalist art. This style of art, popular in the late 1800s, often depicted North African or Middle Eastern figures in elaborate attire, sometimes with a romanticized or exoticized view.  The term "Moor" in English usage historically referred to inhabitants of Roman province of Mauretania, and later, to the Muslim population of al-Andalus (Spain and Portugal), who were of mixed Arab, Spanish, and Amazigh (Berber) origins. The figure in the painting is dressed in a green head covering, a gold-colored garment, and carries weaponry, including a sword and a pistol, along with a staff.  Such depictions, sometimes referred to as "Blackamoors" in popular European decorative arts, represented African males in exotic attire in various art forms like paintings, statues, and jewelry.  #archaeohistories
