"I accidentally committed my OpenAI API key last month."😲 Last week, my learning @cybersafehq API security program exposed us to LLM/NLP APIs and it was interesting to me, so I started researching about how to better secure AI APIs. Then I came across different blog posts on how AI API keys are discovered on github, if you understand how AI billing works, you know that it means: ->Thousands of dollars in unauthorized usage. ->Abused model access. -> Potential data exposure. So I built an AI Secret Scanner that scans for exposed AI API keys. Catches OpenAI, Anthropic, HuggingFace, and 10+ others in <1 second. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 I noticed that generic scanners would usually catch normal API keys if exposed, but miss AI-specific patterns. They catch AWS keys but not Claude keys. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 I built AISecretScanner which detects AI API keys in your application before it reaches your repository. It is: 1. Fast - Scans 1000s of files in seconds 2. AI-focused - Detects OpenAI, Anthropic, HuggingFace, Cohere, Replicate, etc. 3. Zero config - pip install aisecretscanner 4. Multiple modes - You can install it via CLI and add it to your CI/CD GitHub pipeline 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐀𝐈 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫? AI API keys should be secret and hidden, exposing them can lead to serious security risks. AI security isn’t just about prompt injection, it is also about preventing silent credential leaks.
