Ventura County Fire

The Library Fire in the area of the Reagan Library in Simi Valley has been mapped at 8.6 acres. The road to leading to the Reagan Library has now been re-opened. The fire was initially reported at 1:38pm, and approximately 70 firefighters were dispatched to the incident. Multiple units have been now been released from the fire, but some firefighters will be remaining on scene for the next few hours mopping up hot spots and reinforcing control lines. VCFD’s UAS (drone) operators are on scene and surveying the fire footprint from the air to ensure all hotspots are identified and fully extinguished by ground crews. There were no injuries reported, no structures damaged or threatened and no evacuation orders issued. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

VCFD is on scene of a brush fire near the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. Forward progress of the fire has been stopped at 5-7 acres. Firefighters are made an aggressive attack from the ground and the air, including VCFD ‘s Firehawk helicopter. There were no structures threatened and no evacuation orders issued. Staff at the Regan Library made the determination to self evacuate.

Structure Fire in Simi Valley: VCFD along with Simi Valley PD responded to a working structure fire in the 1500 block of Patricia Ave in Simi Valley this morning. Arriving units reported heavy smoke and fire coming from one unit of a two-story, multi-family complex.

VCFD along with our partners at Oxnard Fire, Federal Fire Ventura County, Port Hueneme PD and Gold Coast Ambulance responded to a working structure fire in the 1400 block of 5th Street in Port Hueneme. Firefighters arrived on scene with smoke showing from the 2nd story of a two-story, single-family residence. Initially, it was reported that people were trapped in the home, but they had safely evacuated prior to our arrival. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, keeping the fire to the room of origin, while also performing a primary search to ensure all residents had safely evacuated. The residence required extensive overhaul and there were 5 residents displaced. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or residents. Over 40 firefighters from VCFD and of our partner agencies responded to the incident and the cause is under investigation. VCFD is on scene of a working structure fire in the 15400 block of Kernvale Ave in Moorpark Arriving units reported smoke coming from the attic vents of a two-story, single family home. Firefighters made an aggressive attack to quickly knocking down the fire. Firefighters are currently working on the roof to ensure no extension into the attic. VCFD and Ventura City Fire firefighters, along with AMR and CHP, responded to a technical rescue along Foothill Rd, west of the City of Santa Paula. Upon arrival, firefighters located two individuals stranded approximately 30 feet in the air after the boom lift they were operating malfunctioned. Firefighters from Ventura City Fire’s Medic Truck 5, supported by personnel from both Ventura City Fire and VCFD, executed a coordinated rescue—safely bringing the individuals down using their aerial ladder. Both individuals were unharmed and did not require medical attention. This incident highlights the importance of interoperability between Ventura City Fire and VCFD, demonstrating how our agencies work together seamlessly to provide fire, rescue, and EMS services—regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.

VCFD along with VCSO is on scene of a brushfire near Haynes Road and the 126 freeway east of the city of Fillmore. Forward progress has been stopped at approximately 1-2 acres. The fire was reported in light to medium fuels with a slow rate of spread. Firefighters made an aggressive attack both from the air and from the ground. Approximately 60 firefighters are currently assigned to the incident and will remain on scene for several hours mopping up. There were no structures threatened or damaged, and no injuries to firefighers or civilians. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Today has been designated a permitted agricultural burn day by the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District (VCAPCD). Agricultural burning is used to dispose of plant waste from farming operations and is allowed only in agricultural areas with a valid burn permit.   The Fire Department is aware of these permitted burns and is monitoring conditions.
