Half of which hasn't documented my MRSA journey in South Africa. To make it worse, I moved to the UK & the @NHS has no clue, unless I speak up. Surveillance does need patient input & a complete #EHR

𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒇𝒍𝒖𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑨𝑴𝑹 𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝑯𝑰𝑽 𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒚? For decades, health communication has stumbled at a critical hurdle: making global crises feel personally urgent. We routinely ask communities to change behavior, pay attention, and trust the message. Yet, we frequently fail because our messaging is detached from their daily realities. This disconnect is strongly evident in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). At the policy level, the language is powerful, targets are ambitious, and intentions are impeccable. But when policies ignore what communities navigate every single day, unreliable access to healthcare, lack of clean water, absence of diagnostics, the catastrophic cost of illness, and immense pressure on livelihoods, neither the message nor the response will ever stick. The HIV movement changed the world because it was driven from the ground up. Communities didn't just listen to policy; they wrote it. They demanded that high-level science translate into basic human rights: affordable medicine, dignified care, and localized support. AMR policy must undergo the same revolution. Communities are not asking for complex epidemiological targets; they are asking for the basics. They need clean water so infections don't start, affordable diagnostics so they don't have to guess which pill to buy, and reliable healthcare so they don't rely on unregulated markets. True policy impact begins with radical, honest communication that roots itself in these everyday struggles. If we want communities to protect the future of medicine, we must first address the systemic vulnerabilities of their present. It’s time to stop talking at communities about superbugs, and start fighting with them for the basic infrastructure they deserve. #AMR #PublicHealth #HealthEquity
