Today we're launching Claude for Teachers -- premium @claudeai and Cowork, free for every US teacher. Teachers have been experimenting with AI for a while. But they told us they wanted something curriculum-aligned, evidence-based, and able to work in the background while they focus on their students. Four things that I think make this special:

Following the amazing reaction to the Marble Curriculum yesterday, we've decided to make it open source 🛰️👇 Everything a child learns in primary school. 1,590 concepts. 3,221 connections across 8 subjects, from Math and Science to Computing and Life Skills. Anchored in the US and UK curriculums, standard by standard (NGSS, Common Core, DfE). What you will find in the repo: every concept as structured JSON with its age band and the evidence a child must show to master it. Every prerequisite link marked hard or soft, with a written rationale. It's a true DAG you can compute learning paths on. Open license, you can build whatever you want with it. Now is a unique time in history to be building in education. Getting AI and kids education right is likely one of the hardest and most important problems to crack over the next decade and we need as many smart and creative minds behind it. We think a common solid basis, accessible to all and that can be built upon, is critical to move fast. That's why we're making this curriculum open source. It's not perfect but we know it's a robust basis, and we believe that sharing it openly is the fastest way to progress in this field. If you're building in education, share this around you and tell us in comments if you find this useful and if you want to contribute. We'll keep working and investing on it @withmarbleapp. Credit goes to @guillaume_boni for building this. I just made it look pretty. Links below 👇

@dylanwiliam I sense that the graduate premium has declined too. If being more educated is losing its correlation with with increased lifetime salary, it's not obvious to me whether improved health and longer life would still follow. How much are they a product of education vs income?

@VVMinkov I could try to find the original source, but I don't think there's much point as my sense is that things have changed a lot in the last 15 years, and in particular, at least in the UK, the graduate premium has declined sharply.

I've just discovered that I never posted a series of 5 videos of talks that I gave as part of Scotland's Attainment Challenge on March 24th, 2016. The first is here: youtu.be/QeqvmF83phs. The Powerpoint slides for all five presentations are here: bit.ly/2x20znH

We cannot consider #AI to be morally neutral. In reality, every technical tool embodies choices and priorities through what it measures, ignores, and optimizes, and how it classifies people and situations. Ethical discernment cannot be limited to asking whether we are using a system for good or bad purposes. It must also examine how that system is designed and what vision of the human person and society is embedded in the data and models that guide it. #MagnificaHumanitas

this right here is the reason China stays quiet on Iran everyone losing their mind asking where is Beijing while the US & Israel are bombing a major chinese energy partner and the answer is so brutal in its simplicity that most analysts miss it completely, the empire is eating itself alive and China is already building the replacementt America just dragged the entire Middle East into a war for Israel & now Saudi arabia, UAE, kuwait & qatar are sitting in a room discussing pulling out of US contracts & canceling investment commitments the Gulf states, the literal foundation of the petrodollar, the system that has kept the US dollar as world reserve currency since 1974 actively discussing the exit and Beijing did absolutely nothing to make that happen…Washington did it to itself but here's what people miss: china saw this coming years ago and already laid the tracks, literally the belt & road Initiative has quietly wired 150 countries into c’hinese infrastructure, ports, railways, highways, fiber optic cables, power grids…while the western media barely covered it Saudi Arabia started selling oil to China in yuan in 2023, that alone should have been front page news for a month, the BRICS just expanded to include Saudi arabia UAE and Iran in the samea bloc, China built CIPS as a direct alternative to SWIFT so the entire non western world can settle trade without ever touching the dollar, every single one of these moves was made before a single bomb fell on Iran and then there's Africa…the youngest continent on earth, median age 19, projected to reach 2.5 billion people by 2050, the largest workforce the planet has ever seen & China understood 20y ago that whoever builds Africa's infrastructure owns the 21st century, while the US was spending 4 trillion dollars destroying Iraq & Afghanistan China was building railways in Kenya, dams in Ethiopia, ports in Djibouti, highways in Nigeria, tech hubs in Rwanda, stadiums, hospitals, government buildings, telecom networks powered by Huawei across the entire continent.. & they did it without firing a single bullet, no regime change, no sanctions, no lectures on democracy, just concrete steel, fiber optic and longterm contracts so when people ask why China stays silent on Iran the answer is that silence is the strategy, every war America fights for Israel costs trillions, destabilizes energy markets, alienates Gulf partners and pushes the entire Global South closer to a system Beijing spent two decades building the gulf states pivoting right now has zero to do with ideology, Washington turned their entire neighborhood into a warzone to serve Tel Aviv's regional strategy & then asked them to keep buying treasury bonds with a straight face….the math just stopped working and when the math stops working loyalty stops too beijing's silencee on Iran is the most patient & most devastating move on the board, China is watching america dismantle its own hegemony in real time while quietly inheriting every alliance washington burns, it just has to keep building & keep quiet Napoleon said nver interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake, Xi turned that into a 50y doctrine & right now it's paying off faster than even beijing expected

@ShakinthatChalk @SparxLearning @hegartymaths Not a HoD Is homework set up to be checked in class? - I'm imagining a teacher go through questions and pick students from class to respond and explain and deal with issues and methods etc Or is it optimised for practice? marks it with no insight into method or workings?

Heads of maths departments secondary schools. What are your thoughts on pupils using AI for Sparx homework? I’m coming to term with what looks like rampant use of AI making homework virtually pointless. @SparxLearning @hegartymaths

I stopped taking advice from childless people. Fitness. Productivity. Life advice. All of it. And here's why: It's not that they're wrong. It's that they're playing a completely different game. Taking life advice from someone without kids is like getting marriage tips from a guy who's "really good at first dates." Cool, bro. But you've never had to initiate the tough conversation and own your mistake just to keep the peace. We're not in the same sport. We've all seen some 25-year-old fitness influencer with non-negotiable 5am routine. Wake up. Meditate. Journal. Cold plunge. 45-minute lift. Sounds beautiful. You know what woke ME up at 5am last Tuesday? A 3-year-old standing 3 inches from my face whispering, "Daddy, I frowed up." There's no cold plunge for that. Just reality. These people have optimized their lives around ONE variable: themselves. I'm optimizing for: → A marriage that still thriving after 10 years → Kids who actually want to be around me → A career that provides for my family → A body that lets me keep up with all of it That's a completely different goal and it requires a different formula. Real discipline isn't waking up at 5am when your apartment is silent and your only responsibility is a houseplant. It's a 10pm workout after the kids went to bed because your morning blew up showing up for your family when they needed you. That's the game I'm playing. Childless advice isn't just impractical. It's unrelatable. Their goal: optimize for SELF. My goal: optimize for FAMILY. It's like a vegan telling me how to grill a steak. You might technically know the steps. But I don't trust you with the tongs. The best advice I've ever gotten came from parents in the trenches. They don't talk about "optimizing morning routines." They talk about: • 20 push-ups while your kid eats breakfast • Walking with your wife after dinner because it's the only time you'll get together • Meal prepping Sunday because Tuesday night is a warzone THAT'S advice that actually works. So no, I'm not taking health advice from someone whose biggest inconvenience is their supplement stack being shipped late. I want the guy who's been elbow-deep in a diaper blowout and STILL hitting their goals. That's the guy who I'm listening to. Find your people. Take their advice. Ignore the rest.

Me and my girlfriend went on color hunting in Berlin this weekend. We picked two random colors and had to make a 3x3 photo grid featuring that color. I got yellow, she got blue, here's the result. Had lots of fun - highly recommend!

A teacher gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it, and throw it in the hallway. The teacher then mixed all the balloons. The students were given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon, At that point, the teacher told the students to take the first balloon they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes, everyone had their own balloon. The teacher said to the students, "These balloons arelike happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. But if we care about other people's happiness, we'll find ours too." May your day be filled with happiness!🎉
