BREAKING NEWS
According to his attorney, Dr. Ezequiel Veliz will be released.
Dr. Veliz, a dedicated physician serving the Rio Grande Valley, was detained by immigration authorities despite having lived in the United States for years and caring for one of the most underserved communities in Texas.
His case sparked national attention, highlighting how current policies can directly impact physicians who are actively treating patients in areas where access to care is already limited.
Today, we move one step closer to bringing him back — back to his family, and back to the patients who need him the most.
We will remain in constant contact with his family through Project IMG — including his sister, Genesis, and his husband, Joseph. We will not stop until his full release, and until Dr. Bibi is released as well.
We hope to see you home soon, Dr. Veliz.

The humanitarian cost of the USCIS pause is staggering.
A colleague of mine is a pediatric ICU physician from one of the affected countries by the indefinite USCIS pause . He has lived in the U.S. for 10 years. He completed residency, fellowship, and years of service in an underserved area. He has an approved green card petition. He has spent his career saving American children.
Now his H-1B renewal and adjustment of status have been frozen for 8 months because of this pause. His pending green card work permit, which people are normally statutorily eligible to receive, is also not being issued.
He has already been sidelined from work for 2 months. His wife is pregnant and due in May. Their unborn precious child was diagnosed with cardiac defect that might need emergent surgery. And now he may lose health insurance for himself, his wife, and their unborn child during a critical period, putting both at risk.
Imagine that. You spend a decade diligently saving children lives in America every night, only to be repaid by having your family’s security stripped away, not because you broke any rule, but because someone decided your country of birth was enough to make your suffering acceptable.
That is the real face of this policy.
The PhD student with cancer is not an isolated tragedy. These stories will keep multiplying because cruelty and indefinite limbo have been imposed on legal immigrants who did everything right. Without warning, and without a window to plan, their greatest mistake was having blind faith in the system or in the rule of law. They believed their compliance and service meant something. Instead, it became part of their undoing.
When the full human toll comes to light, this will stand as one of the ugliest moral stains of this era.

New: A ProPublica and MLK50 analysis shows that just 17 of more than 800 immigration arrests made by Trump’s crime-fighting task force in and around Memphis were for violent crimes. 82% of the immigration arrests followed a traffic stop. propub.li/3O498WD

In more than a third of the cases reviewed by ProPublica and FRONTLINE, prosecutors quickly dismissed charges that couldn’t be substantiated, refused to file charges at all, or lost at trial.
There will likely be more outcomes like these. propublica.org/article/caught…

How drastically have things changed at @AP? In February 2020, before the COVID shutdown, I asked for a Friday and Monday off during the legislative session to see my dying father. They said no, I was too critical for our Florida Statehouse coverage. I never got to say goodbye to my father in person. This year, AP decided they don’t need anyone in Tallahassee at all, not during session and apparently not ever. My 27+ years at AP were mostly wonderful. Now, it’s just sad to see how upper management is destroying one of the most important news organizations in or our country’s history.

Venezuelans are risking everything for freedom.
And here’s the truth: Republicans like @RepCarlos talk tough while the administration he supports continues to legitimize and strengthen Delcy Rodríguez.
This moment demands something different—real pressure, real accountability, and a clear path to free and fair elections.

#VPItv
