everyone's worried about AI disruption, but a lot of it is just common sense economics finally catching up the debt was always going to crack, the bloated saas contracts were always going to get cut, the overhired orgs were always going to compress AI didn't cause this, it just made it impossible to ignore

One thing I may have underestimated: The existence of bottlenecks doesn’t necessarily slow technological transitions. Sometimes bottlenecks attract MORE capital. Power shortages → energy investment. Compute scarcity → chip investment. Infrastructure constraints → industrial buildout. That changes the calculus a lot.

I think I finally figured out what’s been bothering me about the AI debate People keep arguing whether AI is “real” or “a bubble.” Meanwhile the more important thing may be: the global economy is becoming too dependent on AI succeeding to slow the transition down voluntarily.

The next generation of startups may not fail because they hired too many people. They may fail because they built products whose economics only worked inside artificially cheap compute markets. That’s a very different bottleneck than the last software cycle

The SaaS bear case assumes AI kills software because anyone can build it now, but that assumes capability was why people were paying People have always/will always pay for time, NOT capability. SaaS moat's are not disappearing entirely, they're simply changing

There was a line from Zohran Mamdani’s inaugural address yesterday that took my breath away. He said he intended to replace “the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.” Collectivism in its various forms is responsible for the deaths of at least one hundred million people in the last century. Socialist and Communist forms of government around the world today—Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, etc.—are disastrous. Catholic social teaching has consistently condemned socialism and has embraced the market economy, which people like Mayor Mamdani caricature as “rugged individualism.” In fact, it is the economic system that is based upon the rights, freedom, and dignity of the human person. For God’s sake, spare me the “warmth of collectivism.”

Once when traveling alone with my 10 month old, the man next to me sat quietly the whole flight and just gave the occasional smile. At the end of the flight he just said “you’re a great mom” and made me tear up. For some reason it felt like the best compliment I’ve ever gotten and came at just the right time.

@MrsCMFrancis I've been on flights with a crying baby, and every time the parents are doing their best. I often wish I could send them a little solidarity and encouragement without intruding, but haven't figured out how to do that. Suggestions?

@GreatLakesWife_ I don't remember bringing anything noteworthy or eating much during labor but towards the end I was exhausted and my wonderful nurse brought me an ice pop that I swear it was the best thing I've ever had

What snacks did you bring to the hospital to have during labour (or have at home for homebirth)? What do you wish you brought? If you didn’t feel like eating no need to reply, I just want to know what I should have on hand in case I want them!

is it tacky to hang your wedding photos up in your house? I paid good money for them, they make me happy, and yet people keep telling me it’s weird I don’t get it

@amywrites2 This is awesome - I have a talker who is not yet a mover (just turned one, is already saying a few sentences but not ready to walk yet) this was a great reminder! Thank your MIL for me :)

I love my MIL so much. She was asking my husband if our son is talking yet (he’s 18 months and says a couple words, but prefers his gibberish words and “mmmm’s” and pointing and leading us to show us what he wants.) Our son was an early walker, and my MIL, who raised ten children, proudly stated: “That’s completely normal. My movers were not talkers and my talkers were not movers.” But she noted all of her children got there in the end eventually. I’m so thankful for my MIL and her wisdom 🥹🥰😭
