@_BehindTheCode And even into the early 2000's. Slightly newer vintage, but a lot of it was still SCSI at this time because SCSI was so easy to bend to your will. :)

Back in the 70's everything was new. Then in the 80's and 90's we had the platform wars where every week there was a new CPU/bus/IO architecture to figure out... But since the turn of the century it's all been very same-y. Apple's M-series gave me a tingle of nostalgia, but everything is so abstracted now it quickly lost its charm.

I'm one of the last set of people born who grew up alongside PDPs and TRS-80s, learning the basics when the basics were all there were to learn! Then I was able to learn as I went for about 40 years, just trying to keep my head above water, understanding it all as it came along. Good thing that (a) I always loved it, and (b) I had 40 years to learn it!

I’m convinced that a large % of programmers don’t actually like computers. As a side effect, are also perfectly happy to throw away their reasoning to a model as soon as they can. I don’t get it, at ALL. Don’t you *LIKE* understanding the magic of the machine? You do realize hand-programming (I hate that I even have to specify hand now) is fun…right?

@NessasDead This is the reason that, if I actually go to the theater, it's the very first show on Sunday morning (09:30)... That's way too early for hung-over problem-people, and I generally get the entire 'Dolby Experience' auditorium to myself. :)

Not that I expect this will ever be seen by anyone @x but, knowing that this is all algorithm-driven, I find myself consciously altering my 'like' inputs. I might 'like' a singular photo of an airplane, for example, but I know if I hit the like button my feed will become entirely airplanes - so I don't. Likewise I may not 'like' that particular image of a car, but I want to see more cars in my feed so I click like. I propose the like system be broken into two functions: "Interest" - a button that signals the algorithm that this post is relevant to my interests but does not otherwise display on a post, and "Like" which signals the author of the post that I appreciate their content but does not weight the algorithm.

@dreamkid83 I think some of it is because people don't plant flowers like they used to... That perfect green lawn that is the envy of the neighborhood has zero value to things like butterflies.

Starbucks coffee is neither as good nor as bad as you read. It's decent. Social media cannot handle "decent", and so they run the "reductio ad absurdum" filter on it until their thoughts come out as "it's the worst slop ever" or "it's heavenly elixir" with no one in between. When the youth realized this, they invented an entirely new word for it: mid. So now you can hyperbolize about how "mid" something is, and it keeps everyone happy.

The folks in Mattermost were showing off their desktops, so here's mine for posterity. Behind the monitors is a Mac Studio M3 Ultra, and on the right is the Mac+ I picked up back in '86. 40 years, one photo. :)

@HimugLamuh I like to ask "Pirates or Ninjas?" out of the blue, and see how they react, then ask why they picked the one they picked... It's a fun question for the prospect, and gives you a nice insight on how they think. :)

WHO CONTROLS THESE PEOPLE?!? There is literally NO WAY this stuff just happens to pop up all across the world and now in multiple states at roughly the same time period. How can people not tell that this is absolutely a coordinated effort to take more of their rights and privacy away?
The Lunduke Journal@LundukeJournal

An “Age Verification for all Operating Systems” (including Windows, macOS, & Linux) bill has been introduced in the state of Illinois. This new bill (Illinois SB 3977) is *very* similar to the recently passed California bill (and the introduced Colorado bill) and, if passed, would set a deadline of January 1st, 2028 for compliance. The Illinois version of the bill is being sponsored by Laura Ellman (Democrat). legiscan.com/IL/bill/SB3977…
