@AI__Angelo Exactly this. I've had stupid responses from stupid people who read my post as wholly anti-AI, when I declared the problem is in trying to make AI do things we were already doing well, instead of focusing on what humanity has need of. Solve wars? Nah, let's make more cat videos.

One of the strongest critiques of AI isn’t that the technology exists. It’s that too many organizations treat “can we use AI here?” as a substitute for asking “should we use AI here?” Not every problem benefits from probabilistic generation, conversational interfaces, or massive compute budgets.

The greatest failure of AI is not in its inception, its capability, or even its own shortcomings. The failure is that "brilliant" people choose to deploy AI in so many places where there was no need, making its detriment to society & its resource cost entirely unjustifiable.

@PaulPallaghy Hundreds of millions using it is your sole indicator for feasibility? Around 1.2 billion smoke tobacco around the world. Does that mean it's good for us? Electric bills are presently skyrocketing due to data centers. AI needs to offer consumers some real value to offset this.

@Vampire337 The house-fire analogy only works if AI’s costs massively exceed its benefits. That’s the very point under dispute. The fact that hundreds of millions of people keep using it suggests the equation may not be as one-sided as you assume.

@PaulPallaghy Clearly you cared. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Nothing you've said counters what I said. "Seeing benefits" is not necessarily enough to justify the impact. Setting one's house on fire gives the benefit of warmth & a cooking fire, but we don't generally do this due to the cost of your house burning down.
