I am pleased to see the UK is not involved in these strikes on Iran. They are ill-advised and illegal. We will be hit by the consequences though & need to prepare for chaos in the region, with shipping lanes, oil facilities & military bases (including our own) being attacked.

New leadership crisis for Keir Starmer — after stopping the candidate (Andy Burnham) who could have won, Labour has come a poor third in the Gorton/Denton by-election with its vote collapsing to barely 25% share in one of its safest seats. The Green’s clear victory with over 40% of the vote — in the end the result wasn’t even close — is worse for Labour than a victory for Reform, which fought a lacklustre campaign to come a poor second (29% vote). There will be panic in Labour ranks now that its Left has been exposed, with two-thirds of Labour parliamentary Labour Party and most of the Cabinet now at risk. This will drag Starmer further to the Left — or, more likely, result in his replacement by the Soft Left (now in the Labour driving seat) by someone who is proper Left. A new phase in British politics has begun.
