The BBC has enlisted debt collectors previously linked to pursuing fraud victims to help enforce the licence fee. It comes after a Commons public accounts committee report last year found the BBC was losing as much as £550m a year to fee evasion. 🔗: telegraph.co.uk/money/consumer…

Now Peter Murrell pled guilty, I can tell you without contempt of court Alex Salmond told me this: when Murrell ran Alex' office in NE Scotland 20+ years ago, Murrell stole a sum from party funds. Alex replaced it with his own money and protected Murrell who had problems. I told Alex his kindness was admirable and covering for Murrell I understood, but continuing to employ him was nuts. I do not doubt Alex was telling me the truth but obviously I can offer no proof. If memory serves it was £500 - a substantial sum at the time.

The Peter Murrell/SNP embezzlement trial begins in Edinburgh today. It has taken Police Scotland and the Procurator Fiscal Service five years investigation and process — at a cost of >£2m — to get to here. All for a £1/2m embezzlement charge.

@frantechno @Telegraph The factory workers are indeed Chinese. For example, right next door in Spain. The Chinese government proposed to the Spanish government to invest in and build factories in Spain, on the condition that all workers be Chinese.

This is the Worlds richest music artist. It's estimated that she may be worth as much as $2 billion. Her PERSONAL earnings from each of the "Eras" tour dates in 2024 were approximately £5 - £6 million. That's not the ticket sales figures - It's her actual earnings per night. She played 8 nights at Wembley in London and therefore earnt at least £40 million from those nights. But..... the British taxpayer footed the bill to get her from her hotel to the venue for each performance. She was provided with the equivalent security usually rolled out for visiting heads of state or the Royal family. This security doesn't come cheap. In fact it may have cost over £900,000 in total. Which is a lot of money. However, when taking her earnings into consideration it's just a small fraction of the cash she pocketed. Which begs the question - Why couldn't she pay for her own security? Why were British taxpayers expected to pay for it?

Over 2 years ago, West Ham fans protested for David Moyes to be sacked. Every game, they had “Moyes out”. In life, always watch what you wish for. Moyes was using a bang average team to win Conference League for them, as well as doing pretty well in the league, I mean he finished top half of the table with West Ham in this season, but they were complaining. They never knew he was pulling some crazy magic to keep them competitive. This is the same thing Everton fans are doing. Everyone battled relegation with Dyche and Lampard. Moyes was 4 points short of European spot this season, but I remember arguing with an Everton fan here on X, and he was part of the people who want Moyes out. Dewsbury-Hall was on MNF few weeks ago to say a bit about how Moyes gets results even the team does not look like it. I mean, they signed a striker who couldn’t even score in 17 games or more. At some point, he was playing Barry this week, Beto the next, because none were reliable. West Ham sacked Moyes. After that, they’ve had 3 managers. Lopetegui, Potter, and Nuno. They’re back to championship after 14 years. Again, be mindful of what you wish for.

Some West Ham fans unveiled a 'Moyes out' banner after the defeat against Nottingham Forest. The Hammers are eighth in the table. #BBCFootball #NFOWHU

Mark Zuckerberg says he doesn't drink coffee or caffeine and does jiu-jitsu instead "Sometimes on vacation, I'll drink it recreationally. I don't like any kind of chemicals or anything like that" "My sister gives me such a hard time about that. She's like, 'You're just sitting there raw dogging reality'" "I wake up and I fight people... It's neurologically stimulating, good cardio and strength, it's a good day" "Better than caffeine for me. I'm just not into that stuff"

Just learned about the concept of a “telescope ranch” in Texas. People pay to have their $10,000+ telescope rigs set up in the middle of TX to avoid light pollution. Every night the roof rolls back off the warehouses. Then you can remote in to your telescope and use it from anywhere in the world.

This is my point. I sometimes choose to do it too. But there is a hige difference between technology as a choice and technology as an obligation. The former generally migrates to the latter.

@rorysutherland I used self-tagging once for easyJet and it was all fine. I mostly travel without any luggage but occasionally I need to bring a suitcase. I don't mind these self-tagging machines. They are neutral and calm me down whereas humans sometimes can be rude.

@JohnHundeslit @rorysutherland I use self checkouts so I don't get double charged or have any discount stickers missed. Happens more often than not these days at the regular checkouts at my local supermarket, even though there is really only one job to do.

@rorysutherland I volunteer to use self-checkouts in supermarkets, as I generally prefer them. But I understand why others might not. Unfortunately, I suspect profit-saving will triumph, and it will be all technology eventually.
