Opening the AGM of the VdG Society by zoom last night, Alison Crum talked of her near normal life this year, driving to Europe for concerts & making two trips to the USA where she was reunited with former students & also met a lot of new players. Viols are SO popular these days!

He was organist @KingsLynnMinstr for nearly a decade and a first Festival celebrating him was held a year ago @KLFestival. Look out for the second one in early autumn this year. A great artist, as was his daughter Fanny.

At #PMQs this afternoon @neill_bob asked Prime Minster @RishiSunak a question about @ace_national decision making on the National Portfolio Organisation for 23-26. The Prime Minister reiterated the arms length principle and committed a Minister to a meeting with backbenchers

@neill_bob @BBCLondonNews Well done! Lack of accountability, no impact assessments done by the Arts Council. Abolish it. Start again with separate smaller bodies, one devoted to REAL Arts (professionals) and museums and another to support Community Leisure.....

@NickRKenyon @DCMS @ace_national @E_N_O And it would be good to remember that all classical music performers, & their venues, are endangered by the 10 year strategy that ACE pursues vigorously. A letter 2 years ago from @dcms told us it's ACE's duty to support 20 kinds of music (punk, grunge, diasporic etc) all equally

It’s decision time. The @DCMS must now instruct @ace_national to revisit its bungled response to the fine aim of increasing funding out of London, involving the unnecessary destruction of a national company @E_N_O and damage to opera nationwide. Create a strategy not a shambles.

Has anyone else been reading Thomas Mace's Musick Monument recently? The state of the Arts which he describes as, for example, jingle jangles perhaps resembles the results of the 'creative participation' that our Arts Council likes to fund. History always repeats itself.
