“It’s a huge step toward equity for NYC immigrants who now no longer have to fear going to criminal court for something as simple as serving tamales to provide for their families” One week ago, @voteshekar LL122 went into effect decriminalizing vending. TY @NY1 for highlighting!

What if NYC street vendor carts ran on clean electric power instead of gas generators? We’re partnering with @CPFNYC to help make it happen. 1 hour of generator use = the same CO as driving 234 miles. 📢 Companies: proposals due this Monday, March 16! 🔗 cityparksfoundation.org/mocej-rfp/

Street food vendors are essential to New York City’s culture and small business economy. Opening the supervisory license waiting list to more U.S. veterans and people with disabilities ensures that these communities have a clear pathway into the legal food vending system.

We're now accepting applications to join the mobile food vending waiting list for supervisory licenses for U.S. veterans and people with disabilities. Learn more and apply to join the waiting list: on.nyc.gov/4upp06c

NYTWA members are excited to testify at today's 1 PM @NYCCouncil rules committee hearing in support of @NYCMayor's appointment of Midori Valdivia as the Chair of the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission. We support Ms. Valdivia because of her years of experience in the industry and her commitment to workers' rights. The hearing will be live-streamed here: council.nyc.gov/livestream. Ms. Valdivia met with NYTWA yellow cab, Uber, and Lyft members at our office on Monday.

Street vendors are our city’s smallest business owners. They are essential to the fabric of our economy. With Local Law 112 now in effect, street vendors will no longer face criminal summonses for simply trying to survive in our city.

The last time we surveyed New Yorkers about their paychecks, the math was easy. Well, easier. In 2005, a blogger at Gawker made $30,000 and the CEO at Lehman Brothers more than $35 million. Back then, there was no “gig economy,” at least not as we know it today, and coffee shops from Bed-Stuy to the Upper East Side weren’t lousy with model–pickleballer–nanny–actor–producer–DJ–creative directors. Some 20 years later, amid a radically different economic environment in which the nature of work feels as if it’s about to change forever, we set out to conduct a similar experiment. We reached into our network of sources, blind-messaged LinkedIn profiles, put out a casting call on Instagram, even stopped strangers in Union Square. What we discovered, just before a jobs report earlier this month confirmed a dwindling labor market, is that salaries across most industries have not kept up with inflation in a city that has become exorbitantly expensive. Of course, there are plenty of people, especially at the very top, doing all right on their salary plus bonus and stock options. The aim of our latest investigation wasn’t simply an excuse to be nosy. The hope was to capture this moment and provide some sideways service to those wondering what else there might be to do. It’s not too late to try to become a tugboat engineer, is it? 60 New Yorkers share what they do and how much they make for our latest cover story: nymag.visitlink.me/8UWFXW

Incredible read: 60 New Yorkers on how much they made last year. Midtown coffee cart guy made as much as a NYT Bestselling Author with 800k IG followers. Both made 1/3 as much as a server at a midtown power lunch spot & less than a traveling lice lady. archive.is/ezKAu
