@TheRugbyIssue @I_AM_INEV1TABL3 Oh yeah for sure they all said worse here as well. Thing is I completely agree. At the end of the day english language rugby media is an old boys club (and a lot of the old guard of fans like it that way). The only way that ends is if we actually get a bit pissed off about it imo

No I agree, it was a frustrating listen but don’t think it warrants publicly calling for him to be sacked mid game. Punishment didn’t fit the crime and think it’s feeding into the cancel culture nonsense where anybody in the public eye can have their life ruined for making one mistake. Again, I am a fan of Squidge and it’s not that I don’t agree Goode was over the top in his whinging on the ref. I just feel him snapping back at them is somewhat justified when they are calling for his head

Imagine an official broadcaster belittling the biggest rugby content creator who has spread the game as much as possible through his hard work, to "a fan" level all because they don't want to call out a pundits inexcusable reply. We wonder why rugby can't gain a new audience...

@TheRugbyIssue @I_AM_INEV1TABL3 At the end of the day, squidge was maybe a wee bit harsh imo (but hes right, I never wanna heard andy and Lawrence again on broadcast), and andy was a bit of a prat. You see it differently at all to this?

@TheRugbyIssue @I_AM_INEV1TABL3 Okay wait you've said two things so im replying here. Firstly, I dont think squidge has reacted anywhere, so thats by the bye- he said someone did a bad job and then that person reacted. Secondly, its a wider issue but squidge did say so repeatedly in prev videos.

@TheRugbyIssue @I_AM_INEV1TABL3 If you watch other sports (particularly look at the Americans, nfl/nba nail this), commentators are entertainers and sports an entertainment product. Anyone doing their job badly over and over again, then getting petty about criticism, needs to get tae fok or rein it in.

@TheRugbyIssue @I_AM_INEV1TABL3 This might sound harsh but pundits need to try and act professionally. The entitlement of so many piss poor ex playing pundits is off the charts. This leads to so many downstream issues in the game - confusion over the rules/strategy in the game, decline in young viewers etc.

@AndyGoode10 Your performance was symbolic of why so many move away from the sport, and why its dying with the younger people. Your job is to be entertaining and help people understand whats going on. Never would have gotten a job in a sport with a competent media, eg nfl. Classy response man

Squidge Rugby@SquidgeRugby

Commentary on this game is basically Miles Harrison getting really excited about how great the game is then Goode & Dallagilo tediously complaining about innocuous refereeing decisions and it pretty neatly sums up what rugby discourse & discussion has become the last few years.

@JamesCathro_ @SquidgeRugby i dont get it. I tune into games and half the time all that commentators are talking about is a refereeing decision. It just feels cheap man like do your job properly and try and make this entertaining. Do you really think tv commentators dont talk about ref decisions?

@SquidgeRugby The rugby referees are a protected species. Not enough is said about how bad the refereeing is these days. Why can’t tv commentators discuss their performance? I think it’s much better to have this than someone too scared to talk about the decisions made.

21 open jobs in an economy in which journalists are hungry for work...that alone is a commentary on the Post's bad decisionmaking and low credibility along peers. No one who's really good wants to work as Jeff Bezos's handmaiden for some kind of absurd, slanted right-wing ideology. You behave like the Daily W*re and credible journalists will give you a very wide berth.

With all due respect, journalists with the freedom to choose their futures (ie, at the very top of the field) are unlikely to go work for newsrooms that just laid off, with no reason or warning, hundreds of equally talented peers or colleagues. This is what a lot of media executives forget: When you do mass layoffs, it makes the organization look unstable and unsupportive of top talent. Good journalism requires stability. The Post's dumb little layoff antics have ruined its ability to recruit at a high level for the foreseeable future.

The MOST expensive URC rugby players in SA should be (from very expensive to expensive) - 1. Wilco Louw & Thomas du Toit (in transit) (the gainline starts at tighthead and they are the best in the World) 2. Ruan Nortje & JD Schickerling (Nr 5 locks and their endurance) 3. Handre Pollard, Chris Smith & Jurie Matthee (they are 86-90% goalkickers and they can ball and defend) 4. Damian Willemse, Sacha FM (their versatility & Rugby IQ is priceless)

@DespoticInroad @drgerke1 A £20/hour min wage would cap earnings at over £400k annually in companies which pay some employees minimum wage. At currently min wage it would be over £300k which would affect around 0.2-0.3% of people employed in the UK

This doesn’t bother me nearly as much as it seems to bother others. South Africa produces an abundance of schoolboy rugby talent, the system is incredibly strong, and schoolboy rugby itself is big business. Players (and parents) are already very aware of this, and many actively market themselves with the specific aim of attracting interest from overseas clubs. Of course, the dream for most is to become a Springbok. But the reality is the competition is fierce, and there are no guarantees. For many, an opportunity abroad offers something equally compelling - earning in a stronger currency, gaining international experience, and potentially building a long-term future in a more stable economy. And if it doesn’t work out? They return home with Euros (or pounds) in the bank and a solid platform for whatever comes next. It’s no different to professionals in any other industry choosing to work overseas for better opportunities.

This kind of tweet supports the false mythology that Palestine was a Jewish land 2,000 years ago. It was not. Palestinians were always a mix of Levantine, African and Bedouin ancestry as well as having a significant immigration from Europe and Egypt, and they had a variety of religions.
Michael Rosen 💙💙🎓🎓 NICE 爷爷@MichaelRosenYes

Palestinian Christians pose one of Israel's greatest problems. If the basis of your state is that you're the sole inheritors of the land, claiming that Muslims are late arrivals, the Christians look dangerously like descendants of Jews who converted to Christianity 2000 yrs ago.

Bishop of Willesden on the Iftar : "The public iftar in Trafalgar Square was not an act of cultural imposition, nor a signal of division. It was, rather, a moment of hospitality: an invitation to share in the breaking of the fast during Ramadan, extended by one community to the wider public. It was open, generous and peaceful. It reflected something profoundly British; the instinct to gather, to mark significant moments together, and to make space in our common life for the traditions that shape our neighbours. "To suggest that such an event is somehow threatening risks misunderstanding both the nature of religious expression and the character of our national life. Religious freedom in this country has never meant the privatisation of belief. It has meant the opposite: the right of individuals and communities to live out their faith openly, visibly and without fear. That principle applies as much to Muslims observing Ramadan as it does to Christians celebrating Easter, Jews marking Passover, Hindus celebrating Diwali, or Sikhs observing Vaisakhi." churchofengland.org/media/news-and…
Fraser Nelson@FraserNelson

So far, Christian leaders have been absent from a debate, led by politicians, about the place of faith in public life. So good to see the Bishop of Kirkstall give his perspective.

Israel has been pummeled all night. Based on my counts of alerts and reports of landings from open sources the number increased tonight, though there are no reports of casualties. My Whatsapp groups are filled with people having breakdowns after not sleeping for two weeks. In Jerusalem 4 alerts were heard in a 90 minute span. Iran has been able to increase the number of launches daily. Everyone seems angry at the IDF and Netanyahu for lying about the destruction of Iranian capabilities.

Juarno was included off the back of arguably the best season of his career. Missed out on a cap through injury, and hasn't quite hit those highs yet. Boks also set to have Elrigh Louw and Hanekom to bolster 8 stocks. Both missed the entirety of last year due to injury. Trokkie was there because of that too. As with all alignment camps, inclusion doesn't equal caps and exclusion doesn't mean they won't play either.
