@Prkchopexpres @WallStreetApes Part of the reason for the push to electric was because it would be easier to meter the electricity to limit how much you could use the car. Reducing the amount you drive was always the goal.

@WallStreetApes It’s bs. If it were built on climate concerns you think they’d omit electric cars from the mandate yet they haven’t. Just another way to crush the citizens of the commonewealth.

WOW 🚨 Massachusetts Democrats preparing to limit how much you can drive your car Instead of driving your car, a new council will be established to make sure residents use more public transportation “The bill proposed in Massachusetts would limit how far you can drive in your own car. So lawmakers say it would help reduce the state's greenhouse gas emissions. Now, while no specific mileage limit was listed, the bill would require MassDOT to set goals to reduce the number of statewide driving miles. It would also establish a new council to find ways to make public transportation more accessible for residents. Now, critics say A cap on personal vehicle miles would directly impact those in rural parts of the state.” It received a favorable vote (4-1) and it has moved to the Senate Committee on Ways and Means Committee

@vickieparker04 @WallStreetApes Most likely they'll add a required fee to your insurance. Say, an extra $1,000/yr if you drive more than 10,000 miles.

@WallStreetApes How would this even work? Would they send police to read your odometer daily and then throw you in jail if you drive to work on a street you pay for? Just sell your car every 5000 miles? Drive everywhere in reverse? Which elites get to drive more?

@WallStreetApes This isn't anything new. They had a commission a few years ago to do the same thing. They set a goal of raising gas prices to at least $4.50 a gallon as I recall, to reduce the number of "vehicle miles traveled."

There are no brutalist elements here, it's a postmodern deconstrucvist take on the original ziggurat skyscraper concept with politics injected. Probably the last example of this that will ever be built.
Will Tanner@Will_Tanner_1

The point of Brutalist architecture, such as the gulag-themed Obama Center for Quality Learing, is to demoralize They know that beauty is inspiring and uplifting, and so wish to replace it with these ugly, lurking behemoths that destroy one's spirit and blight the cityscape

The knowledge gap in the U.S. when it comes to pre-independence American history stretching from 1607 to 1775 is pretty extraordinary. It’s treated more or less like a black hole with the occasional mention of Jamestown, the Mayflower, the Salem Witch Trials, and maybe a passing reference to the French and Indian War (almost always tying it to the American Revolution). 168 years of American history which is almost entirely absent from our popular culture outside of professional historians and enthusiasts. I’ve always been troubled by that. This period is worth rediscovering.

It used to be that you *needed* your close family to survive. Now, technology has freed you from these chains. You can move thousands of miles from home to pursue your career and artistic dreams. Now, what percentage of the population that does just that do you think is on mood-altering pharmaceuticals to treat depression and anxiety?
wanye@xwanyex

Technological progress frees you from having children the same way that it frees you from having any kind of close relationships at all.

Wouldn’t this not just lead to owner occupied housing assets skyrocketing in price and commercial real estate tanking?
Peter Schiff@PeterSchiff

@GrantCardone Property taxes should only be levied on income producing properties. Not residential, owner occupied housing, as the properties don't generate income to pay the tax.

@Zookemnukem @SeattleIndepen1 Because neo-classical architecture was the leading style of the time (early 1800s). Trying to imitate French architecture, which was itself imitating Roman architecture, has no relevance today.

Too European, insufficiently American. This would make for an odd juxtaposition in Washington. It’s very hard to do things like this properly. You risk the effort being half-assed or being an over-the-top caricature. On a deeper level, I would suggests that the idea this is being proposed indicates that level of exhaustion in our culture and society. We desperately want to go big and monumental but are so used to thinking small that all we can do is a copy of a 2 thousand year old design.

Not trying to be mean but if you’re majoring in the humanities & you can’t read 200 pages a week, and you feel the assignments are garbage, perhaps the humanities isn’t for you. Spend less time tweeting your disdain for books and I suspect you would find the time to read them.
nur@nourician

200-300 pages a week is fucking delusional. people have jobs and responsibilities – their time is less free than ever!!! a lot of the shit they assign as readings in the humanities is also total garbage lmfao, maybe 30-40% is worth reading
