@VeteranVexed

Campaigner for Veterans. Doing the right thing. Served over half my life in the military, now a justified grumpy veteran.

For tears when leaving for deployment. For the son that holds your leg when you leave. For the daughter that does not know you on return. For the miserable nights on stag and lost weekends. For being in fear of my life. This is why I want a fair deal #veteran #beyondthecovenant

@DefenceHQ The words 'took out' seem inappropriate for a formal statement. You 'take out' your partner for a meal or a night out. In this case the word 'destroyed' would be more appropriate. Unless of course the drone is indeed being wined and dined by an RAF pilot...

Today, a Royal Air Force Typhoon operating from Qatar as part of the joint UK–Qatar Typhoon Squadron, successfully took out an Iranian drone heading towards Qatar.

@VeteransGovUK @DefenceHQ I do know but the #Beefeater clothes seem to give away that the person is a #veteran quite well, rather than a digicard. Also only 16% of the veteran population took up the veteran card, so I wouldn't expect a rush from a population that is typically cynical of government #trap

@VeteransGovUK On this #WMHD I will be getting pissed and then wondering how much of my War Pension I have left to pay the bills. Then I will consider how the repeal of the NI Legacy Act has had a downturn on my mental health. AND I wasn't allowed to grow a beard when I served! #forgetten

@VeteransGovUK I presume she resigned her commission when she stood for parliament in 2010, in line with MOD Regulations?

The OVA is proud to support the work of the Female Veterans' Transformation Programme which is creating resources that will help transform services for female veterans. They’re launching a toolkit for service providers later this year. #femaleveterans #sheserved #womenveterans

“We never grow up and we’re just full of life,” says Celia, who jokes about people thinking she shouts a lot because she was in the @BritishArmy She worked her way up to Major General during her 35 years serving as a reservist, championing causes for inclusion and diversity.

I served in Northern Ireland…I serve you now as your Minister of Armed Forces. We have put in place protections to ensure the process does not become the punishment for those that have served. The argument that this only affects a small number of the 250,000 Armed Forces that served is not an excuse. We will ensure every veteran is looked after thetimes.com/uk/defence/art…

We understand that sudden loud sounds and vibrations may be triggering for some veterans, so we want to let you know about an upcoming test of the UK Emergency Alerts system. On Sunday 7 September at 3pm, the government will send a test alert to all compatible 4G and 5G mobile phones and tablets across the UK. A short message will appear on your screen, along with a loud sound and vibration lasting about 10 seconds. This is only a test, there is nothing you need to do and no reason to be concerned. If you’d prefer not to receive the test, you can find step-by-step instructions for switching off alerts at gov.uk/alerts/opting-… Emergency Alerts are one of the ways the government can share information quickly in the event of a real emergency. Sunday’s alert is just to check the system is working. For more details, visit gov.uk/alerts

@mattyt339 @MilitaryBanter That is the Great Place to Work for Veterans Scheme. The AFC is different to this. If you look at this the only department that has signed the AFC is the DWP, via the Job Centre Plus's. 100% no gove dept has signed as they enforced it, it doesn't mean they sign it

The Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) represents a promise by the nation to every member of the Armed Forces, every veteran, and each of their family members. Yesterday I joined fellow MPs for an important parliamentary reception to share the vision for the future of the AFC and our intention to honour our Manifesto commitment of putting the Covenant fully into law. There is lots to work to do on the Covenant but we are fully committed to improving it and getting it right! Thanks to Steve Yemm MP, @PoppyLegion and all the other supporters for pulling this together.

@KernowGold @VeteransGovUK @AlistairCarns @DefenceHQ It's a new service based on a report that was due to be written by Dec last year and hasn't been published, that was rushed out for yesterday and VE day. It's all a little rushed and the evidence around it is not clear. Hence why people are asking questions...

@VeteranVexed @VeteransGovUK @AlistairCarns @DefenceHQ You haven’t read it, have you. It’s to fund 4 veterans hubs/centres across the country, not to hand out £25 to every veteran. Currently, support for veterans is a postcode lottery. This new service is to help streamline that. Please read the report.

@KernowGold @VeteransGovUK @AlistairCarns @DefenceHQ No I have read it, I was merely pointing out what that means on spending per veteran in the UK. In the same way that I pointed out the increase in OVA budget in Mar 2023 was the same cost of a pack of stamps per veteran, 2nd class of course...

This all feels a bit rushed out. I am looking forward to the £25 per head that this effectively represents. .. Also pleased to see the @DailyMirror being used for government announcements. Perhaps the removal of the @VeteransGovUK Comms team will help increase the budget?
Office for Veterans' Affairs@VeteransGovUK

We are backing our veterans with £50m of funding to roll out a new, UK-wide veteran support system - VALOUR.    Find out more at mirror.co.uk/news/politics/… #VEDay80
