@1goodtern Depressing to see kids sick because their parents chose to not have them immunised or vaccinated. I hope these kids live long enough to “thank” them for their chronic illness and disability.

I've got some more data to add to this. And it's a bad situation. 🚨🚨 I based the thread below on 'Lab Confirmed' Cases of Whooping Cough in England. This evening I had the chance to look at the 'Statutory Notifications'. It's rising much faster. This will be a 5 tweet thread.

⚠️I would like to share a very very serious concern about whooping cough. ⚠️Professor Paul Hunter of the University of East has said that there was a surge "expected based on usual seasonal patterns" this year. 🧵About those usual seasonal patterns:

@johnsub40 @SandraWeeden GPs are utterly unbelieving when you present your child with whooping cough (later confirmed by PCR). "Unlikely because they are fully vaccinated". Happy to let us go on a plane untreated. The vaccines wear off over time, why don't GPs have this basic knowledge?

@SandraWeeden My whole family had it and are still trying to get over it. Hospital pretended they were stupid and said Whooping cough wasnt about since 70's. Why lie?? We forced the test and hospital & GP seemed surprised. They are hiding something!!! Has to be vax related.

Five babies have died from whooping cough this year, as cases increase in England. Health officials have warned a decline in vaccine uptake has contributed to a rise in cases of the infection. Doctor @SaleyhaAhsan joins @ClareMcDonnell1 to discuss 🔽

Watching ITV lunchtime news, whooping cough is headlining. Friend took child, not baby, to the GP numerous times with an awful cough. GPs largely ignored it until her paediatrician neighbour informed her the child had whooping cough! Scary stuff.

It turns out I had whooping cough (pertussis). 🤯 In medicine what is common is common and what is rare is rare and inexperience with the disease and a lack of timely epidemiological warning meant this wasn't top of my differential diagnosis. A 🧵 on this crazy situation. 1/

I've been parainfluenzed. Or metapneumovirused. I got THE COUGH, via partner, who got it via spontaneous generation and not at the school where he works. I'm at day 5. He's at day 18. Please, Lord, may this not last 100! 🙏🏻 I can now verify my patients descriptions as correct. 😭

@homer_sim40591 @Lizzypop15 @ATwarriordonkey @EmergMedDr @ABridgen The vaccines we recommend in pregnancy - flu, COVID, whooping cough - are recommended for a simple reason. They are safe and prevent mums and babies getting very sick and sometimes dying. The fact we have had these five whooping cough deaths shows how important this is. 5/5

Sadden to hear about these deaths that were preventable. Important reminder of how deadly whooping cough can be for the vulnerable. It is difficult to stop these infections, so vaccinations, especially for pregnant mums, are vital to protect newborns. Vaccines save lives.
The BMJ@bmj_latest

Five infants died after developing whooping cough in England in the first three months of 2024, @UKHSA has reported. There were 2793 confirmed cases of whooping cough in the UK up to the end of March. This compares with 858 cases in the whole of 2023 bmj.com/content/385/bm…

Whooping cough is no joke and is currently everywhere in the UK. Myself, my children & other members of my family currently have it. Get the vaccine/booster or you can expect sudden, prolonged coughing fits whilst struggling to breathe. The antibiotics are also rough...

@Vic6401 @doctor_oxford And even getting to see a GP is a major pain in the arse these days. No I don't blame the doctors either. The system for contacting them sucks balls, there's unemployed GP'S and you're lucky if you don't up seeing a PA.

It's an utter tragedy that babies - in Britain, in 2024 - are dying of preventable, Victorian diseases in because of fears around whooping cough vaccines. Parents - please chat through your concerns with an NHS nurse or doctor you trust. We won't judge, we'll listen. (1/2)

There has been a worrying drop in the uptake of vaccines for babies in the UK. It is hugely concerning that there have been 5 reported infant deaths from whooping cough btwn Jan to March 2024. Ignore the anti-vaxxers! Vaccines prevent against life-changing and deadly diseases.
UK Health Security Agency@UKHSA

We publish data today that shows whooping cough cases continuing to rise, with five infant deaths reported for the period Jan to Mar 2024. Please contact your GP practice if you are pregnant and have not yet been vaccinated. More detail here: gov.uk/government/new…

‘Victorian diseases’ are now a 21st century problem Partly due to spillover hesitancy from misinformation around other vaccines (eg MMR and Covid) Also need to improve catch up coverage , especially in more deprived and vulnerable communities bbc.co.uk/news/health-68…
