I am aware that the ULP executes instructions. Since the ULP can be woken up by an external interrupt to process/evaluate data before waking the main CPU, any comparison should account for the total power consumption of the same process on a ForgeFPGA. Furthermore, the cost of adding an external component like the ForgeFPGA must also be factored into the comparison.

It does not load the entire FPGA, and synthesis toolchains usually ground all LUTs and interconnects that are not being used. If there is no clock, then there are no periodic actions that need to take place, and a purely combinational circuit simply behaves according to its inputs.

@Vicharak_In Keeping an entire FPGA loaded in order to use it as a battery circuit doesn’t make sense. I understand that FPGA are unique, and make cool circuits. But i don’t think it would have low idle current

One of the coolest things you can try with ShrikeFi is using its FPGA as a battery wake-up machine. ESP32 deep sleep wake-up is a well-known task in the industry, and people try all sorts of things to execute it. Since FPGAs can reconfigure at the gate level, you can implement a pure hardware circuit that wakes up the ESP32 after 5 clicks, no clocks, nothing to maintain power. It’s a purely asynchronous circuit. And how much it costs? Just 849/- INR or 9$ to begin with.

@Vicharak_In It would be nice if the bitstream was reverse-engineered and worked with yosys+nextpnr. Otherwise, it’s a pretty great chip. I’ll start playing around with my Shrike Lite soon and share some stuff on my blog :) I’ll see if I can get the Renesas software working on NixOS.

@Vicharak_In Does the full FPGA synthesis workflow work on Linux? I recall you could do everything in the Arduino studio now. Just checking if Renesas tooling must be installed separately.
