I think the $4 Shirke-lite (RP2040+ForgeFPGA) dev board could become a surprisingly capable FOSS JTAG endpoint for OpenOCD, OpenFPGALoader, and maybe even vendor tools.

Also - Shrike btw is an CPLD right ?. There is a load of difference between a CPLD and FPGA. I would rather pickup an Arty A7 / S7 100 T / Ultrascale MPSoC series if am serious about FPGAs (I wish but time is an issue tbh)

Everyone doesn't need an FPGA. Learning to use an MCU and SBCs better helps a lot more. 95% of the engineering problems you face is solved with an MCU / SBC. FPGA is only used for the other 5%. And yes, that other 5% is either highly secure comms / perf comms , HFT and others
