I rarely travel by train in europe. To be honest I might’ve never done a train journey for more than 1h there. But it’s because it doesn’t make any sense, the trains are so inefficient and a flight is literally 4x faster and cheaper Now I’m in china and had to go from Chongqing to Zhangjiajie so taking the train was a nobrainer. Like it was 20€ and only 2hours. The rail network here is crazy comeon the rest of the world needs to lock in.

I have owned a Tesla since 2019 . Today I had to drive my Sister In Laws 4 cylinder ICE - 6 gear - Ford Car, back to her home - 3hrs away from where I live. HOLY HELL - every @Tesla Owner should be obliged to drive a manual ICE car 200 miles at least once a year ! We forget. We take it for granted - we think it’s normal! It’s is SO not. IT IS NOT. I estimate that the Cognisant overhead was at least 2x . The insecurity was 2x. The overall effort was 2-3x. I got home exhausted. The UI was analogue indecipherable - I really tried Radio - that’s it that’s all I achieved. MY Tesla Envy on road, as they passed was grounding. A Tesla is not just “another car” …. IT IS something completely different. I was gentle on arrival but made the point To my Sister in Law “Gosh that’s different” She said : “ It’s fantastic isn’t it ?” “6 Gears and it’s so nippy “ “ Did you enjoy the Sat Nav” She did & she meant it. Un po' di contesto sulla vicenda Elettrolux. L’Italia è stata per decenni una delle capitali mondiali degli elettrodomestici bianchi di fascia medio-bassa. Indesit, Merloni, Candy, Zanussi, Rex: interi distretti industriali vivevano di lavatrici, frigoriferi, forni e lavastoviglie. Era un prodotto semplice, con tecnologia consolidata. Ma oggi quel mondo è in crisi strutturale. Negli ultimi vent’anni gran parte dei marchi storici è stata acquisita da gruppi stranieri: Indesit da Whirlpool, Candy da Haier, Zanussi dentro Electrolux. Il controllo strategico del settore si è progressivamente spostato fuori dall’Italia e, più in generale, fuori dall’Europa. Il problema non è solo la concorrenza sul costo del lavoro. È cambiata la natura stessa del prodotto. L’elettrodomestico bianco non è più soltanto meccanica, motori e lamiera. Sta diventando elettronica, software, sensori, connettività, gestione energetica e integrazione con la smart home. Una lavatrice moderna incorpora chip, firmware, sistemi di ottimizzazione dei consumi e funzioni AI. E qui i grandi gruppi asiatici hanno un vantaggio enorme, perché controllano supply chain elettroniche, semiconduttori, componentistica e piattaforme digitali. Nel frattempo l’Europa soffre costi energetici molto superiori a quelli asiatici, domanda stagnante dopo il boom Covid ed eccesso di capacità produttiva. Per questo i grandi gruppi continuano a ristrutturare. In Italia il settore vive da anni tra cassa integrazione, chiusure e ridimensionamenti. Eppure sarebbe sbagliato leggere tutto come un semplice declino inevitabile. L’Europa conserva ancora vantaggi importanti nei marchi premium, nella reputazione di qualità, nell’efficienza energetica, nelle normative avanzate e nel design. Non è un caso che molti standard globali su consumi, riparabilità ed ecodesign vengano di fatto definiti a Bruxelles. In alcuni segmenti — Bosch, Siemens, Miele — il premium europeo resta molto competitivo. Ma il baricentro industriale globale si è ormai spostato in Asia, soprattutto in Cina. Haier, Midea, Hisense, LG e Samsung non sono più semplici produttori low cost. Sono conglomerati tecnologici integrati, con enormi economie di scala, capacità software e controllo della componentistica. E stanno salendo rapidamente anche nella fascia alta del mercato. La vera questione strategica è quindi questa: l’Europa può mantenere una base industriale autonoma negli elettrodomestici e l'Italia è andata negli scorsi anni nella direzione per poterlo fare?
