Even though this video is about fan fiction and writing, the way she describes how people online interact with writing in an emotional, socially approved way is exactly the problem that comicstwt has with comics. Nothing can be too far outside the paradigm of approved storytelling, like Magik being subdued to demons in Age of Revelations. "You can't do that" they cried. "She's a victim of SA!!" Actually, the writer CAN and SHOULD make stories that challenge how you feel. Not every comic or story is happy; the hero loses the girl, the puppy dies from a car accident, the god of trickery and evil IS racist and a bigot. Art should challenge things and push boundaries on occasion. A writer who writes about uncomfortable topics doesn't necessarily agree with everything he writes.
