@ElijahForCA I've been a Freemason for 14 years now, and I legitimately have no idea what everyone freaking out about it is talking about. Hope you like potlucks and hanging out with old guys.

@allie__voss Lol I have a Facebook "friend" who's an obnoxious Reddit atheist does this song and dance about how she "escaped a cult." She grew up in the same Episcopal church I did and she and her parents didn't even have great attendance.

I get the sense many people overstate how religious their parents were Half the time “It was horrible, we were LITERALLY in a cult” means they went to Presbyterian services on Sunday and were in youth group
Ryan Burge 📊@ryanburge

“My family was super religious, but I rejected it young.” That story gets told a lot—but it’s rare. Just 2% say they had a very religious childhood and left early. In reality, religion is usually passed down. Your parents' faith tends to become your own.

@avrilbradley23 Some would argue we actually won the Vietnam War, militarily of course we did. Vietnam is ruled by a communist party but its economy? Far from communism. We accomplished the primary job of the Korean War. Grenada? Easy. Gulf War? A whopping success. Operation Iraqi Freedom? Win.

The US record is mixed but it has won most wars since WW2-and its record is rather better than either Russia or China. Tbh most people who I see use this line of argument tend to be Mead's Jacksonians who are upset the US military can't engage in WW2 style total warfare.
Jeet Heer@HeerJeet

The United States hasn't won a real war since 1945 -- and isn't likely to win now. Of course, like it's attack dog, US has ability to slaughter vast numbers of civilians. But that sort of "lethal capacity" isn't the same as an ability to fight wars.

if smoking were an american bad habit, non-americans wouldn’t be talking about it like it’s nbd. unhealthy things are only unhealthy when americans do them lol. they’re so anti-american they’ll defend an objectively dangerous and unhealthy addiction over it

I honestly don’t understand the rage between *some* Catholics and Protestants. The Reformation happened in the 1500s. We can all calm down now, yes? Surely you have other matters to be enraged about?

That last caveat is in case one of the DOGE weirdos shoots up a mall or something and gets the danger needle in a blue state, which is far more likely than a future Democratic Congress having a Soviet-style purge.
