"Taken as a whole, the submitted evidence paints a picture of a nation that does not understand what happens to its data, cannot give meaningful consent to how it is used, and ends up self-censoring for fear of being watched.” #dataprivacy theguardian.com/technology/201…

Very interesting initiative - "Lots of people are still in this mentality that if they get an email from their boss they have to respond. We are trying to educate people and tell them that is not necessarily the case."
Skip Fidura@skipfidura

Here is a #lunchtimeread on how progressive email policies can help improve mental health at work. My worry is that with the explosion of channels (Slack, Basecamp, WhatsApp, etc.) the pressure stays but the conversations are more poorly documented. buff.ly/2WoPBny

"The common denominator across these exposed files is misconfiguration. So what's going wrong and why are configuration errors still such a problem when you'd think that getting the security basics right would be top of the agenda for businesses and service providers alike?"
Davey Winder@happygeek

By me @Forbes: How 2.3 billion files, including #medical data and #creditcards, got exposed. And did I mention the 'private' photos from an 11 million picture leak? Kudos to @TheBeerFarmers for insight. #infosecurity #dataprivacy #leakedphotos #Cloud forbes.com/sites/daveywin…

"With mass data fragmentation, enterprise data is siloed and copies of the same data are spread across any number of locations on-premises and in the cloud. Organizations often have no idea what data they have and what personal information is stored in those copies."

We found an "Email is Dead" headline from 2007 - surprise surprise - it wasn't. There may be better options than email for some purposes, but there's rarely a better option for everything. Google sees Gmail as key to its collaboration plans computerworld.com/article/339622…

"We know our smartphones, Nests and Alexas collect data, and we’ve come to accept an implicit contract: We trade personal information for convenience. With cars, we have no such expectation.” #dataprivacy

Today’s cars are equipped with an always-on wireless transmitter that constantly sends vehicle performance and maintenance data to the manufacturer. Modern cars collect as much as 25 gigabytes of data per hour. nyti.ms/2HJ4Nl9
