Remember before AI slop era when people used to quickly organize collages of characters from anime & video games they like as references to use for their commission? Wasn't that a thing? 🧵 Don't skip steps in the process that could make the artist final result better.

Saw a pro-AI guy that blocked me some time ago, and wouldn't stop insulting me, portraying me as an ogre in their AI content etc. Everyone's different and people are entitled to opinions, but there's more to it that "this side this" "this side that".

I wish people understood that just because you hate generative AI for art and advertising doesn’t make you a leftist. In fact, it shouldn’t even be a blue vs. red issue… it should be basic common sense.

Artists - Don't be this person. Reference material is the ONLY thing AI "art" is good for. It saves a TON of back an forth between an actual artist and the non-artist trying to pay them to draw the exact thing they have in their head that they're trying to describe to you in words. MANY drafts and corrections that don't need to be done because you're not trying to interpret descriptions - the AI did that part. Now, you want to PUNISH people for wanting to pay an actual artist to draw the thing in *their* style instead of just using the AI version they have? Are you stupid?

@Void_Checkpoint @PlummSoju What is that argument? The modern world is not inept when it comes to translating languages. Besides, the chances you find someone you want to commission in the same language you speak is significantly higher than otherwise in this case.

@kazueyyy I support real artists but I understand ai is a tool. For example what if I need a dumb background for a short and its in a scene for 5 seconds never to be used again. Should I commission someone 100$ or more for a 5 second shot? Mind you I dont use any ai art just a hypothetical

@Enevun This is not actually fact though. Some artists English might not be there first language. Obviously nothing wrong with that but words sometimes get mixed up or confused. So your point isn't 100% accurate.

Generative AI shouldn't have a place in any creative medium: including Vtubing & Roleplay If you can describe it to an AI, you can describe it to an Artist

@DevourerOfRamen Depends if this is the type of artist that refuses an ai reference and then proceeds to tell client to go look on Pinterest or deviant art to find a reference image. This has been commonly said.

"unprofessional" Proceeds to thank them for being interested and politely tells them they wont accept their request and why in a professional manner. If THIS is your idea of unprofessional then I almost certain you have never been told no in your life. Thats how this comes off as

You know what I did when I wanted a design/ref? I made a mood board and a collection of reference images for specific things I liked for outfits, hair, etc. Artists have every right to deny ai references it literally steals from them??

I reject requests that have AI references, the reason is not only that i do not support AI, but you also do not know if the AI just generated a stolen design from another artist. If you are not a artist and don't have a reference i recommend using moodboards / collages / picrew

@JuWowis @faenibun That's not what I'm saying. My point is about consistency. If consent is the standard, then why is fan art or using random pinterest images as references often treated differently when not every creator has consented to that either? That's the gray area I'm talking about.

@TenkoKamiVT I mean, they should disclose if they used it in their art. To be honest, it depends. If you're disabled and run it through something to smooth out, say, finicky lines, I get it. But if I'm commissioning art, I want the art to be handrawn, since anyone can generate themselves

Would you want to know if an artist you commissioned has used AI and has no problem with using AI in commissioned art? I just saw a creator post an amazing art piece, went to the artists commissions page and it says -(1/2)
