Today is exactly 2 years since my new / old / same life in the USA started.
It's so funny how time is distorted. I feel like it was yesterday when I arrived, but also at the same time, I feel I've been here for 5+ years based on how many things happened.
I had a couple of big learnings (in no particular order):
1. I can't believe how many doubts I had about relocation. My life in Serbia was great, and I thought I would not be able to build the same quality of life anywhere else. I thought I would lose that happiness that I needed many years (decades?) to build. But I was so wrong, and it's good that I listened to that voice in my head. Serbia is my home country, but the USA is my natural habitat. This is where I want/have to be.
2. The USA is indeed the country of opportunities, or the USA just succeeded to gather people who make new opportunities every day. The amount of successful, and open-minded people that you can meet here is unreal. Of course, these people are all over the world, but their density here, especially in SF Bay Area is mind-blowing.
3. Even more importantly than where you are, is with whom you are. I'm so happy and grateful for all my friends from Serbia, and I'm equally happy and grateful for my new friends here. Life without all of them would never be the same.
I met many people, and I'm so grateful for all of them, but this guy. This guy is unreal. I literally have never in my whole entire life met anyone like him. That level of humbleness, kindness, love, passion, and intelligence is something that I have never seen. He is true motivation and best friend. Mr. Meet, thank you for everything! ❤️
4. It's easier to change country than yourself. On the day when I moved here, it was still the same old me. All same habits, same mentality, almost everything was the same. I needed to change myself.
4. The grass is always greener on the other side, but you can nurture your own grass. The USA, as every other country, has many disadvantages and advantages. It's up to you to decide what you prefer more, and what you care about. You can build your perfect life in many places, but you need to understand what you need for it.
5. The most important learnings: You need to listen to yourself. Your inner voice, your hunch, your body, yourself. Never settle down for less. Have crazy dreams, make goals out of them, put plans in place, and get amazed. This is just the beginning.
Good luck, and thank you for being part of this crazy journey! ❤️
