A theory I’ve heard is all luxury/boutique hotels tried to differentiate the experience with shower settings (spa-like, rainfall, multi-contorls).
This shower arms race led to design creep in lower-end hotels too and now no one can actually shower

Except for the fact that while in 1975 the Swedish and Finnish navies were neutral, the East German, Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian navies were aligned with Moscow and the Baltic republic navies didn't exist they are now all in NATO.
