The Valknut is also known as the heart of the slain, heart of Vala (Volva) and as the heart of Hrungnir. In Grimm's tale the Frog King the servant of the cursed prince has 3 iron bands round his heart cause otherwise it would break of sadness.

@Grimniu @Wotanszoon Inderdaad, al zijn er soms nuanceverschillen afhankelijk van de context en regio. Het kan ook een negatieve bijklank hebben (bv. 'da oud grief'). In het Oost-Vlaamse dialect wordt 'gerief' echter vaak als 'grief' uitgesproken (bv. 'werkgrief').

@Grimniu Ik denk dat het Nederlands een minder emotioneel belaadde taal is dan het Engels en dat wij ook minder synoniemen hebben voor heel veel woorden. Hierdoor kan het Engels gedetailleerder ingaan op emoties, sfeer, ervaringen etc.

@ogmios @Sagnamadr I wonder of the story of Beowulf is connected to the lunar cycle. When he departs his home he gathers fourteen of his warriors and sets sail, compare this with how the Egyptians depicted the lunar cycle.

The Christian scribe who recorded Beowulf condemns the Danes for praying to the Old Gods, yet, when they do, Beowulf arrives. Makes you wonder how he may have been referred to in earlier versions; undoubtedly as a gift from the Gods, even an avatar of a deity.

@Iwobrand @VrilMagier The arrangement of the swastika and semi-circle on this bracteate looks similar to the Ilkley Moor swastika stone in appearance. If there were a connection to the Ursa constellations in this symbol the horse could represent the Karl's or Wodanswagen.
