This has to stop

URGENT: Protect the Public’s Trust has re-submitted three scientific integrity complaints, originally filed in 2022, urging the Department of Health and Human Services to closely examine how COVID-19 vaccines were evaluated, authorized, and recommended for children. We are renewing these concerns in light of recent media reports describing an alleged internal FDA memo that connects at least 10 pediatric deaths to COVID-19 vaccination and suggests that political considerations may have influenced certain regulatory decisions. These revelations make a thorough, transparent review by HHS more important than ever, along with a clear effort to correct the public record where necessary. One of the central issues we raise is whether CDC and FDA leadership allowed policy goals or political pressure to outweigh the available scientific evidence when recommending vaccination for children under 5. The decision-making process during this period appears to have diverged from established scientific standards, and we believe this warrants careful scrutiny. We also highlight concerns uncovered through FOIA documents showing that CDC communication materials relied on a non–peer-reviewed preprint to substantially overstate the number of pediatric COVID-19 deaths. These materials framed COVID-19 as a top-five cause of death among children—an assertion that played a significant role in justifying broad vaccination guidance for minors. Given the weight of such claims, it is essential to determine whether the underlying data was accurately represented. Protect the Public’s Trust is calling on HHS to investigate each of these issues with the seriousness they demand. Restoring trust in our public health institutions requires full transparency, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to scientific integrity.
