The Fried Egg recap of The Player’s is a good episode worth a listen. People love watching The Player’s even though Sawgrass does so many things GCA “purists” claim are abhorrent. Tight water hazards, hard lines, trees in play, heavy handed features, etc. I don’t know why it’s tough for some to admit that watching pros chunk the ball out of the rough at Oakmont isn’t that entertaining or skillful. Or at least understand why some of us feel that way. Water, trees, visually jarring builds - these are all still relevant forms of challenge for a golf course, and in the case of pros especially - often great choices.
