Former Housing Alliance board member Troy Christensen co-wrote a powerful op-ed piece: “Let’s not move backward by replacing evidence-based support with failed policies of coercion and criminalization. Let’s move forward, with homes — not handcuffs.” Read: seattletimes.com/opinion/lets-m…

How much do you need to earn to afford a modest rental home? On average, you need $33.63/hr for a 2-bedroom home and $28.17/hr for a 1-bedroom home #OOR25 shows that housing is out of reach for workers across a range of occupations and wage levels: nlihc.org/oor

#NLIHC released today “Out of Reach 2025.” Published annually, #OOR25 highlights the gulf between the wages people earn and the price of modest rental housing in every state, county, and metropolitan area in the U.S. This year’s report shows that low-wage workers and other renters with low incomes continue to struggle with the cost of rent. Given the inadequate housing safety net and increasingly unaffordable rents, it is no surprise that homelessness is on the rise. Addressing these challenges requires long-term federal investments in affordable housing and the #HousingFirst model for ending homelessness. Read the report here: nlihc.org/oor

Burien provides the best example of why Washington lawmakers should pass HB 1380, which would require laws related to homelessness be objectionably reasonable. Arresting and fining people will not end homelessness, yet this is what Burien is doing: publicola.com/2025/01/28/cit… #waleg

🚨🗣️City Council provided <24 hrs notice that there will be public comment at the 9:30am budget committee meeting tomorrow. This is the final chance to weigh in on the budget before they vote. Please testify if you're able, and send an email: actionnetwork.org/letters/seattl…

City Council is spending more money to remove a curb in West Seattle than they are on eviction legal defense and other tenant services for the entire city. Saying they "care about tenants," and using buzzwords like "accountability" and "transparency" is gaslighting the community

.@NLIHC and our partners successfully defeated many extreme policies during President Trump’s first term, and we are prepared to do the same now. NLIHC will also – as we always do – look for potential areas of agreement with all policymakers to advance solutions that protect tenants, alleviate the housing crisis, and advance racial and housing justice.
