@DavidKemp_1983 @Authw8 The ISD is designed to fight other capital ships because in the previous war the enemy was able to pull ships like the Providence-class out of their ass. It has a secondary role of policing pacified worlds or counter-insurgency with a small ground force.

@WNY_Plinker @Authw8 Yes the Imperial II had more defense turrets added due to the rebels retrofitting civilian vessels into makeshift combat vessels. But the I and II still function as Amphibious Assualt ships. Their primary purpose is to transport ground forces and support aircraft into theater.

the imperial star destroyer has always fascinated me. it's a gunship, but it's also an aircraft carrier, and also a troop transport. that always seemed inefficient to me. but i think it tells us something about how the empire worked. the galaxy is a big, complicated place and imperial presence was surprisingly thin on the ground. my guess is that star destroyers are very logistically convenient. it might also tell us something about imperial command culture. my guess is that splitting roles across ships didn't work very well because the authoritarian culture of the empire made cooperation difficult. having one ship with one guy in charge probably worked better. i think it also suggests that the empire was focused more on internal politics than peer conflict. which makes sense because they had no peers. but was also why the rebellion tended to overperform.

@DavidKemp_1983 @Authw8 Not carriers since they carry smaller space wings than their smaller predecessor the Venator. Not assault ships since they aren't designed primarily to land forces on contested planets. That was the Acclamator's job and it could land more troops and walkers.

@BallerToy1327 Worf will accept Riker's word of honor he won't cheat. Data can just be told not to do that and he won't. Riker can just think about that thing he used to do with Troi's butt hole and she's powerless to read him. Geordi only did that once, and only after the hand had ended.

@WhiteyNorthcutt For me it would be NYPD's Stakeout Squad in the 70s. They'd be concealed in cash-heavy businesses just waiting for the bad guys. Basically just handed a license to kill armed robbers.

@HariSel57511397 It's neatly demonstrated at the end of Rogue One. All the Rebels thought they were just up against a dictatorship. Nope, it's actually demonic space wizards. You can't espionage your way to victory against something like that. They needed mythic heros to defeat a mythic evil

The antigunners never gave up on their dream to ban handguns, they just realized that dream was deeply unpopular and decided to focus on "assault weapons" and ancillary restrictions like fees, wait times, etc. The Glock Switch moral panic gave Everytown and the other groups cover to demand that their allies in California and other blue states sue Glock. Now, they are getting them to ban Glock. By banning Glock and its clones, they ban the most popular handgun platform in the country. And they won't stop there; they will find some pretext to declare other popular handgun models "too dangerous" and ban those too. Death by a thousand cuts. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has done nothing so far to stop about a dozen states from banning the most popular rifles in the country. Bruen is working out great....if you are in a pro-gun circuit. Antigun circuits like the Ninth, Second, First, etc. are treating it like a joke and have effectively re-imposed interest balancing, and are upholding pretty much all draconian gun control. So of course antigun states are emboldened to put their toes into the handgun ban waters once again. If the Court has any self-respect, if John Roberts cares about the legitimacy of his institution at all, they must take on a hardware case soon and make clear that bans on common firearms are unconstitutional. And then, they must follow that up with frequent summary reversals of the inevitable antigun circuit court defiance of that ruling.

Please note: When Democrat-led state governments start banning Glocks (as California, Connecticut, and Maryland have done) they are literally BANNING HANDGUNS. They have moved beyond the AR-15 and are now banning your pistols.

Going down the list: Gates dumped well over a million dollars into gun control programs in Washington State. Warren Buffett was on the fuckin advisory board for Everytown. Steve Balmer donated 7 million dollars to Everytown. Bloomberg, is, well, himself lol. The amount of money he has spent pushing gun control is somewhere between "a large fraction of his net worth" and "all of it." Larry Ellison spent hordes of treasure basically creating the biometric "smart gun" industry and frequently lobbied for its requirement. Also went on with Oracle to help design digital infrastructure for what would have become a controllable registry for guns. Bezos dumped millions of dollars into getting current NJ governor Mikie Sherrill elected. Zuck's "Chan Zuckerberg Initiative" group was heavily involved in "gun violence research" shit that has been thoroughly documented to be full of Giffords goons whose only conclusion to any problem is to ban guns, and would twist any data to reach that. Never mind Facebook basically leading the charge in destroying online gun content in the late 2010's. The Walton family has been funding candidates and political action/advocating for Universal Background Checks since 2019.

@ArmedJ0y What groups are they donating to? How much?

@DavidKemp_1983 @Authw8 An Imperial II has 8 octuple turbolaser turrets. It's an impressive gunship and not to mention fast (could chase down a CR-90). Its fighter wing is more for screening from fighter attack. No ISD captain worth his code cylinders is going to sit back from a fight unless ordered.

@Authw8 Not really a gun ship. Has some self defense guns like a carrier but mostly tries to stay distant from a fight. It is a mobile orbital base used to transport aircraft and soldiers to a conflict specifically on a planet. As you said, they have no peer in space.

They will take any gun they can take from you. It’s not about assault weapons. It’s not about semi-autos. It’s not about pistols. It’s not about magazines. It’s not about 3D printed guns. It’s not about suppressors. It’s not about bump stocks. It’s about guns. All guns.

@aseitzwald He's more the Emperor's trouble shooter than the #2 man in the chain of command. Darth is also a hands on job. If you die from one little dogfight you just make room for a more worthy Sith.

Insane the Empire allowed Darth Vader to personally join a dogfight in which both sides were taking massive casualties. Oops, we (nearly) lost our galaxy-spanning empire’s #2, heir apparent and best fighter bc he wanted to a job otherwise performed by nameless expendable extras.

OFFICIALLY SIGNED: New York just banned online sales of CNC machines, lathes, and 3D printers. Required surveillance software on every one. And there's a bill in committee to require a background check to buy them at all. Look around you at who didn't fight, or who ONLY appeared to fight once they saw my video views pouring in. 🤔 Video soon!
