Rice was a quarterback in high school before walking on at West Virginia as a linebacker in the fall of 2021. He transferred to West Liberty University where he was named Mountain East Conference Defensive Freshman of the Year. In 2023 he was a nominee for the Harlon Hill Award, which is given annually to the most valuable player in Division II. Rice was at West Liberty for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and in the two years he was there he recorded 89 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, 11 pass break-ups, and six forced fumbles. He then made the move to Ohio for the 2024 season where he recorded 30 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, five QB hurries, and three sacks. Rice had 25+ offers and made visits to Purdue, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Indiana among other schools. He is a graduate transfer that has one season of eligibility remaining. Rice combines experience, size + strength with P4 caliber twitchy athleticism. Simply his motor never stops.. Playing like he's got a point to prove (given his underdog background) on every snap of the ball. He helps fill a huge need along the defensive interior for the Terps.
