Sometimes, little things in life can bring us down. We may be joyful one minute, and suddenly something unexpected happens and we are struck with sadness. I experienced that yesterday. I was enjoying my family and friends, full of joy and laughter. And then, my youngest granddaughter (1 1/2), got off her mom’s lap and joyfully ran with her arms raised to my ex husband’s new wife…and I was deflated.😞 She’s never seen me and ran to me like that, and I instantly felt heartbroken, like I had been rejected by her. She’s 1. She didn’t know she was breaking her Memaw’s heart. She just saw someone she loves and wanted to go see her. And it makes me think of how often we are hurt by people who don’t even realize that what they are doing is hurting us. How often are we the ones hurting others unaware? Or, how often do we run with arms wide open,toward someone or something, while God is watching and waiting for us to embrace Him like that? We ignore Him and don’t even realize we are doing it. Yet, He stands by, waiting for the day our faces light up and we run into His loving arms. And I will do the same. I will keep offering my love to my granddaughter, and someday she will light up when she sees me and will run toward me with arms wide open, and I will swoop her up and love on her❤️

We have a crisis of intelligence and morality in this country, and the combination is tearing us apart. We have hordes of people who are so desensitized to violence that they laugh as though they’re watching a game while people run in terror during a shooting. We have no hope apart from repentance and revival sweeping across this land. May God send it.

It would be intensely scary to feel this afraid and realize again that your primary protector and safest place is gone. That compounding loss on loss. There must be intense fear of failure. The need to throw yourself into the thing that meant so much to the person you lost. Then to have those moments dissected by you and by me. Damn I would want to stay home. But she doesn’t seem to. Doing this means something to her that I don’t understand. The really important thing is that I don’t need to. Her choices here aren’t an excuse for voyeurism and abject cruelty. There will always be that element of public life. The cheap seats will always boo the people on the field. It’s true in all arenas and it’ll stay true tomorrow. But the reasonable among us behave like adults and this keeps the peace. When the reasonable lose the common sense middle way we all suffer. So we reframe the thoughts: Am I being neurotic? Do I have unexamined feelings underlying these behaviors? Is this my business? Is my voice getting loud and cruel necessary? Am I being childish? What’s my goal with these behaviors? Does this behavior feel good? Why does this feel good?
