I don’t use social media to pontificate but this needs to be said. If no off-ramp is found within the next week, history will write of this Middle East conflict as WWIII. Very soon, it will resemble a global conflict in terms of the number of countries involved, the intensity of violence, and the spread of its absolutely catastrophic consequences. Parliament ordered ALL the Mandelson papers. The files mysteriously contain zero messages from Morgan McSweeney – the Mandelson protégé who ran the vetting and spent “much of Tuesday” in contact with him. Now Kemi Badenoch is demanding McSweeney be dragged before Parliament to explain why his messages are missing and why Starmer signed off Mandelson despite explicit warnings. If No10 really “can’t” recover the messages from their own chief of staff’s phone, the least they can do is put him under oath and let MPs ask what was said, when, and on whose orders. This isn’t just about Mandelson. It’s about whether Starmer’s inner circle has been hiding the truth from Parliament.

One thing on the McSweeney mobile saga. As I wrote, I contacted the Met to ask if any efforts had been made to locate the phone or the messages contained on it. They told me twice they wouldn't look into it unless I provided details of the theft, including a crime number. This is one of the biggest international political scandals for a generation. The British people have a right to transparency. And the police and the government are doing everything possible to keep that transparency to a minimum.

Is any named official quoted? Is the US Navy vessel involved identified? Claims that all this is too sensitive are undermined by availability modern open source information about missile launches. It's also not as if the mullahs wouldn't know what they had fired and when.
