okay this felt incredibly cringe, but I built an AI assistant that can do calls on my behalf because I hate calling i had it call a hotel and ask their minimum AC temperature. here's the transcript: Hotel: "Welcome to Hotel W Barcelona, my name is redacted, how can I help you?" Agent: "Hi, I'm calling on behalf of Marc. I'd like to know if the rooms have air conditioning, and whether there's a minimum temperature limit — the coldest it can go — because some hotels don't let you go below a certain point." Hotel: "Yes, we have air conditioning. The coldest we can set manually is 19°C, but maintenance can lower it to 16°C." And then my agent just hung up without even saying thank you 😂 I don't know how to feel about this. It seems really useful for getting additional information not provided on the site, placing quick orders, etc. But also feels wrong when those humans on the other side don't realize they are talking to an AI

I agree with you in the generality, but to be fair this is a replacement to the massively overcomplex LISA which tried to merge retirement saving & first time buying. Its a product mainstream banks don't offer because of worries they'll be done for misselling (over retirement savings). Many in SE England who use it now face paying the state a fine because they're priced out of the market, and there's a withdrawal penalty for 1st time buyers who use the money to buy a house above the threshold (which hasn't moved since 2017) The new proposals are much simpler, though not without some issues; hopefully iron-out-able in the consultation. Yet it still leaves many who have LISAs in limbo, as they won't be able to transfer into the new product.

sorry about the downtime, everything should be back to normal. postmortem our GPUs did a software update overnight which in turn bricked the nvidia drivers, and made the generation flow go kaput. we've taken action to prevent this from happening again by changing our auto update policies. we also added extra telemetry, since the previous alerts did not account for some edge cases in the system.

@petergyang I don't see AI creating something better or unique to the likes of Elden Ring. Unimaginative slop doesn't sound all that appealing unless the game is a platform like Roblox but with AI assisted development.

The only apps I download these days are games - and I think it's only a matter of time before we can all make our personal games... Multiplayer will still be hard...for a little while.
