Harshaw Chapel and Cemetery Located in Murphy, North Carolina. Harshaw Chapel is a small brick church that was built during the 1860s, then donated to a local church by Joshua Harshaw. The cemetery around the chapel is even older than it is, and according to local legend, Abraham Linconln’s father is said to be buried here. It’s rumored that folks have seen and even caught on camera mysterious figures in the cemetery and the Chapel windows. There have also been reports of people being touched and even grabbed in the graveyard. We did a video exploring this location talking about the history as well as it’s alleged hauntings, you can watch it here: youtube.com/watch?v=2pi9mo… #NorthCarolina #history #murphync #hauntedplaces #hauntedhistory

Throughout history, shadowy winged figures have appeared before cataclysmic disasters, like harbingers of doom. The Skree was reported by Lord General George Murray at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 in which 1300 men died in less than an hour. 169 years later it may have returned

It seems like every state with large lakes or bodies of water has a giant water cryptid. This one is kind of shared with Maryland. It’s the Chesapeake Bay Serpent also known as Chessie. It’s said to be about 30-35 feet long, and has been sighting many times over the years by fisherman, naval officers and even FBI agents. One of the possible first sightings we could find took place in 1846, when a ship captain who was sailing between Cape Henry and Cape Charles over on the eastern shoreline. When suddenly he saw what he described as a “small headed serpent-like creator”. Much later in the 1980’s there were a ton of sightings. One in particular on a clear night back in May of 1982, a man named Robert Frew and his wife had some friends over for a get together. Robert looked out at the bay to admire the view when he noticed something strange. He saw a large object, about 30 feet long floating against the tide. It had a long slender body, humps along its back and a head resembling a horse or a snake’s. Robert and his friends watched the creature in awe and even managed to video record it! The story and video blew up all over the news and media. There have been many sightings of the feature before and after this as well. A more recent sighting, this one I found from 2014. Two friends were driving along the Magothy River, when suddenly they noticed a 35ft or so snake-like creature in the river. They said that it had a football shaped head. We did a video on Chessie and other Virginia Cryptids. You can watch it here: youtube.com/watch?v=HUWg82… #Virginia #cryptids #stories #storytime

This is the famous TNT area of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. During World War II the area of more that 8,000 acres was used for ammunition manufacturing. For safety reasons and to hide it, the ammunition and explosives were hidden in the concrete igloos. After the war, the area was mostly abandoned. Then in the late 1960s the world famous cryptid we all know and love was said to have been seen here. We did a video where we explored the TNT area by the land and water you can watch it here: youtube.com/watch?v=l5PpLO… #WestVirginia #almostheaven #mothman #cryptids #visitwestvirginia

Possibly one of North Carolina’s most haunted locations is located in Chatham County. If you follow Devil’s Tramping Ground Road, you will come to a strange clearing. It is perfectly round, measuring 40-foot in diameter, and completely barren. Here, nothing seems to grow. Not grass, not trees… nothing. Even animals seem to avoid the area. Beyond its strange appearance, many report that the area is haunted. People have described leaving objects in the circle, only to come back the next day and find it on the outside of the clearing. This leads me to wonder: what is going on here? Local legends say the Devil himself spends his nights in this very spot pacing around in the circle, thinking of ways to bring more human souls down to hell. The heat from his hooves kills all vegetation and causes the soil to remain barren. If he finds anything in his path—no matter the weight or size—he uses his immense strength to toss it out of his way. Residents have passed down this story through the generations since the founding of Chatham County in 1771. To this day, no one has been able to present a logical explanation for the phenomenon. We did a video at this location check it out here: youtube.com/watch?v=NSRC-y… #NorthCarolina #spookystuff #urbanlegend #DevilsTrampingGround

In Kamchatka there are reports of a giant cryptid I like to call the caterpillar bear, aka Irkuiem. It's described as a bear with a long and narrow body, and strangest off all the movements of a caterpillar. It moves its front legs first then drags its back legs up to meet them.
